I used Timken Set 49 and they are loose as shit.
Just picked up pair of FW115 and they are ball bearings and made in Korea although the box says made in Canada. I'll see how they work.

I have never argued against this because in the back of my mind im wondering if
Timken is making BOTH ball type and roller type bearings in these outer dimensions.
I just have not had time to research that yet. This is the reason I put considerable thought and effort into trying to remove the seals (without noticeable damage in order to receive refund) of the Timkens in question that I have....I want to know if they are balls or rollers. At $50 a pop I will figure it out another way. It's not on me anyways, I gave Rockauto the correct info and they COULD POSSIBLY be selling the wrong product from Timken. IF this is the case then I would suspect other retailers of having the wrong product from Timken also.

I would suspect that the balls are intended for lighter duty applications that don't have to deal with the same dynamic forces as a wheel. If all this were true it would explain almost everything.

I have had bad luck(same grinding noise as Timkens) with the Moog/National/Precision/DT Components/Carquest/Federal Mogul bearings from O'riellys at $40 a pop. Yes all those companies use the exact same part number, and what does that tell you? ......there are about 5 or 6 companies in the world that actually make these bearings and the rest rebox. You wouldn't believe how many more brands are listed in cross reference charts as replacements(sample list included). What I don't know is which ones are rollers and which ones are not.

Upon removal of the one failed Moog/National bearing it came apart and revealed balls inside, all bets off. I didn't even try the other one, they both went back. I want rollers because they have at least ten times the surface area for wear and load forces.

So to answer your question would require knowing whether or not those hubs have the same bearings as the ones that failed me in the driveway (part number 513058).

I haven't used them on a truck. I've used them to replace bearings on my motorcycle. I don't recall where I got them from, but it was a local San Diego outlet.

So any verdict on the "CORRECT" wheel bearings for our trucks? I have a bad one on my new 03 setup, and have the two on my truck now to replace them, but I would rather press in new CORRECT wheel bearings that won't fail or have play after 2k miles. I have the equipment available to press in new ones and would rather do that than buy new hub assemblies.

Have you installed them yet? Those are the entire timken hub setup. I just want the bearings, as others also. can you see a part # on the bearing itself inside of the hub?

Just mockup, not the full weight of a wheel, but they seemed fine. I'll know more this week as I tear the truck apart.

I don't think mine necessarily NEED to be replaced. I have to do a full brake job on the front so I figured I'd replace the hubs while I had it apart.

I think I'm just gonna send these back and wait...

I have used the Timken Set 49's two different times on my truck, once when the truck was just out of warranty and the second time just last year. Both times they worked like they should.

The attached link is the type of hub bearing used on the Dakotas, it is a dual tapered roller bearing in one housing. If someone has come across one that is ball bearings, it is not correct.

You guys need to just stop messing with this bearing replacement crap and buy brand new hubs from the dealer and know it's done right.

Where did you get your hubs from? Maybe the set 49 aren't correct for your hubs since they aren't factory.

maybe buy a timken hub, press out the bearing and swap it into your 5 lug hub?

Is that what you do, buy all of your replacement parts from the dealer?
