Pay now or pay when it comes home on a flatbed. Sometimes both. Part of the game.
I'm would guess a pant load, I have never used the stuff but wonder how it covers. I would assume pretty well judging by their videos. What color were you looking to do it in?
For doing large surfaces like a hood, I'd personally suggest getting the sprayer and a gallon can of it from www.dipyourcar.com
Problem with doing larger pieces like a hood using the rattle cans is getting even coverage, and your hand will get tired fast trying to spray the whole hood. But I would guess at least 5-6 cans to get good coverage. It took one full can to do both my front fender flares.
These work pretty good.

I rattle caned my hood. Took about 3 cans. I'm planning on platidiping it soon. I went ahead and bought a case since I'm going to do the wheels on the Ram too.
I have one of those Rob, that was my plan. Think Ill get 6 cans to be safe.

Temporary. Trying to decide if I like the black hood look before I commit to painting a new hood for real.

I'll say this now and take it how you want but you will get overspray lines in your hood as you will find the paint dries before you can get th next pass by. As said by Brian. Get a sprayer from dipyourcar.com you won't have that issue. I painted my hood with the dip just temporarily till everything is done and this is what happened.

Did you cross hatch when spraying 2nd, 3rd, etc coats?
Yup, came out great, especially considering it cost less than $50. Still looks good, may have faded just a lil, but it's been sitting outside for over two years without even a coat of wax. I'm going to be painting a set of flares to put on, I'll compare the color and if the truck needs a fresh coat, I'll throw that on. Then maybe keep a lil wax on it to protect it. But for the cost and ease, it's hard to beat.
Rustoleum Satin Black enamel (google "rustoleum satin black" and my truck is the first image that shows up lol). You mix it with mineral spirits to thin it out (I did a 50/50 mix) and roll it on with a small high density foam roller. I prepped the truck with 320 grit pads on a PC7424, and then wetsanded between every 2-3 coats with 2000 grit. Never did give it a final wetsand or paint the handles, so I'll do that when I put the flares on. It's just been sitting, I've only used it to haul stuff, but I think I'm gonna start driving it again, miss driving a truck.
I like the satin look, but I might try my hand at some gloss paint one of these days. The satin paint is pretty forgiving, especially on a truck that has a few dings where you don't feel like doing the body work (like this truck lol).
I did a thread on dak-dur with more info and pics:

Here's the paint I used, I bought 3 pints of it, and it only took a pint to paint the whole truck.
OP, sorry for the hijack.
How well does Plastidip adhere to aluminum? The lower part of the my Roll-n-Lock bed cover has lots of scratches on it that I would like to cover. This is that box portion inside the bed that stores the cover when it is rolled up.
Even if it does stick to aluminum it may still not be a appropriate thing to paint with because if it is prone to being scratched then those events would cause big chunks to peel up.
