Thread: 10's or 11's??

  1. #1

    Default 10's or 11's??

Can my truck make it into the 10's or 11's for under a nickle? Starting from stock, what would you?

If a nickle means $5k, no way. You might get enough power to get there, but there's so much more to 10's-11's than the power the engine makes.

From what I've picked up here, the average 408 is what, $6.5-$7k? That n/a will get you in the 12's, plus you have to figure the stock trans won't handle that power, so a good built trans is around another $2k. Not to mention other little odds and ends, traction issues, etc. Am I wrong here? Still a noob, just basing this off of what I've been reading on this site.

Don has $5k or better into his LS1 now and it will hit 10's this season barring a blown_______ (add GM part here)

Cialis has less $ but run's 13's with his LS CC

A Magnum Stock long block with boost (or lots of spray) and supporting mods can get you there under $5k if you want an 11sec ET several have proven that.

    (mineshaft air needed)

10's is whole different ball game.

Step 1- gut the truck and take the bed off. Lighter is faster. You'll need a big hammer, pry bar and saw. That's all "free mods".
    Step 2- NOS kit
    Step 3- run a 10/11

It all takes work. People can and have pulled off a "Hail Mary" pass to get that timeslip - then backed it back down for longevity, but most can't be satisfied that easily.

Where the problem comes is the fact that people (like me) are greedy. If 10 psi of boost is good, then 12 psi of boost will be even better.
    Just a little more timing.
    Just a little more boost.
    Just a little higher stall.

We all continue to set goals,
then when they are met we create new ones.

If I could just get into the 14's.
If I could just get into the 13's.

    Dammit, the transmission just went.

If I could just get into the 12's.
If I could just get into the 11's.
If I could just get down to an 11.50.

    Dammit, broke the rearend.

If I could just get a 10-second timeslip.

Oops, there goes the transmission again….
Maybe I'll go with a higher stall convertor and maybe a trans brake now.

I need new tires again - the bitch won't hook now...

Keeping it running at that level if you run it all the time or drive it all the time is where things get interesting. It never ends until you either run out of money or run out of patience - or simply find something else to repeat the pattern with. Or, you just go ahead and admit you have a mental illness problem and proceed like that's what you planned all along.

    My advice?
Either admit you will never be done with it… or leave it stock.
