So what's the conclusion we have come to for widest tire on a stock wheel without widening them?

I know I have 315s on my rear 20" reps. I think they are the same width as stockers. But I'm sure one could go wider?

A couple of turbos on an old Dakota
295 would be about the widest you should go on a 9.5" rim. At least if you go buy manufacturer recommendations. And a lot of tire shops won't mount on rims narrower than recommended. Also once you go to wide you actually start causing the tread patch to bow and you don't gain the benefit of larger contact patch with the wider tread.
I bought a set of r/t rims. front 2 are painted and ready already. I plan on 255 45 17's for the fronts. The rears are getting widened 2" and getting 335 35 17's !!!! I cant wait. But the tires are f'n expensive! It will be all worth it in the end and for a daily driver and street tire, I think it will suit my all weather needs just fine and give me nasty traction. i may end up doing the 285 40 18, alot cheaper, but 335 is sick

they should fit, if anything, it may need a 1.25" spacer. tire choice, idk yet. I may go used, those tires run around 550 a piece shipped. I could probably get 2 used ones for 500ish. Idk, just planning ahead. If all else fails like i said 285 is an option. but have you seen a 335 35 17? crazy wide, and I believe they should fit fine. there are guys running 390 40 17 m&h and they have a 14.3 section width, which is 1.1 inch wider than the 335 35 17's. Not too bad, being they are a street tire. I would love to run dr's, but daily driving it in the rain is a concern of mine. Alot of lambo's and vipers run the 335's, and I do intend on it. I think they will be my income tax present for next year just setting up goals of mine

Ok I'm running 255/50 on my 17" stockers, what would or should be the widest I should go with? I'm thinking of doing new rear tires soon
I honestly don't mind the height that is on there just want a wider foot print

I believe our stockers are 9.5", I'm going to look around for 295s or 315s, they all still in new condition I'll just have spares for the fronts!
Yea I'm gonna look for 295s
Way back in the day, BFG made a 305/45/17 that fit our OEM wheels. They weren't anything spectacular because the contact patch was closer to that of a 275, which has been the "gold standard" in after market tires on these trucks for OEM 17's for over a decade- regardless the manufacturer. 275/50 is what you're looking for- anything else and you are likely just paying for the number. let us know what you find though...
