Default First Time 1/4 Mile Racing

Ain't no way I'm gonna win this thing, but here is the infromation just the same.

West Coast Sacramento Meet was a blast this past weekend. Being my first time on the strip with my R/T (or any other 4-wheel vehicle for that matter), I entered the Saturday Test and Tune for the experience. Before that, I read the recommendations for drag racing our trucks, so I had some options:
#1. Leave it in "D" with OD off
#2. Leave it in 2 and manually shift into "D", with OD off
#3. Leave it in 2 and manually shift into "D", but have the OD on

I messed with #1 and #2, but didn't bother with #3. Reading the input, and listening to others at the track, I went with #2 above for the races, after getting in 12 passes on Saturday, and 3 before the racing began on Sunday. 14.71 dial in(I put 14.712 on the glass, just for giggles).

Below is my best ET using #1 above:

    Place:
October 2013 Sacramento raceway. I believe the DA was 25 feet above sea level.

    Mods:
    Heavy Mod N/A

    Mopar Perf. Computer
    Huge K&N Custom CIA
    50mm FB TB
Modified Kegger Intake ported to match the heads
    Eddy Heads
    HS 1.7 Rockers
PPH Headers exiting through the smog-legal cat and into a single in, dual out Spintech Muffler
Stock original shortblock, stock cam, stock injectors, stock ignition
Beefed up valve body for the stock trans
    Stock rear gears
Stock RT Wheels and Federal 255/55-17 Tires

17 total runs for the weekend. I know I need to work on my reaction time, but more than that I probably need to get rid of that stock cam that will still allow it to pass smog.

I am not a drag racer, and don't plan on being one with this truck or any other vehicle, but I had a great time out there with everyone.

    Good job...

Ain't nothing like the first time...On my first time out in 2006 I didn't even know where the drag strip was, I finally found it lined up and made every mistake in the book...and I mean every mistake.

But that first 15 second pass fucked me for life....LOL

My first pass was October 2006 and I finished 2nd. I didn't get a bug, I got one of those "Men In Black" sized cockroach's in me!

Congrats Corey! Glad you made it out too. And thanks again for the manifold!
Next meet I want to leave the truck at home so I can enjoy watching everyone else...(or just bring it for show).

Thanks for the encouragement, or peer pressure, but it's not going to happen. I might upgrade with a cam, but that's about it. I'll watch all of you lower your times.

For the record, I won the first Sunday Race like I said, by luck:

The second race I lifted before the line because I didn't know where Garrett was, and I would have broken out if I kept on the gas, so either way I would have been out:

The only maintenance I need to do is to remove the rubber from the rear fender area, and the lower rear of the bed.

Great write up Corey! Your truck was running great, I'm glad I had the chance to meet you and race with you!

BTW, huge thanks for donating the t-handles to the raffle! I have a 1/4" one in my motorcycle tool pack and it's one of my favorite tools, I'm pretty sure the 3/8" one will get a ton of use too

Dial in with 11.74, run a 11.76 on a .006 tree and lose.

It's not about the cam, it's about the "can". Seat time is cheap.

    Hey Josh,

Great meeting you as well, and I had fun with your attitude. That's what I am use to. Like I stated, beginner's luck on my end winning our race, as it shouldn't have happened.

You sure have one fast Light Mod Truck there. What all have you done to that?

    Nice Award you received too.

I forgot to add that my truck weighs in at this event, with 1/2 tank of fuel, 4130 lbs. Add 200 lbs. for myself also on that same scale.
