Default Slightly O/T: swapping 360 into 4.7L/5spd Dak... what's involved?

I won't get into the gory details, but Boy Wonder turned the 4.7 in his 2001 Dakota into a boat anchor on Friday.

He's dumped a fair amount of his high school money into the truck already, so parting it out isn't something either of us wants to do.

    We're looking at our options.

How much hassle is involved in swapping a 360 in where a 4.7L once was?

I know there's issues with it being a manual trans, but I'll cross that bridge when it breaks.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. (and "buy a 360-truck and transfer all your parts to it" isn't a suggestion we can use)

get a flywheel from a Ram 360 with a standard trans

Need a 5spd PCM (ram or dakota) for the 5.9 or 5.2

just make sure you have the motor mounts on the engine

then you'd need an engine harness.

It's gonna be a little trickier than that. The 2001+ Dakota was made with a CAN bus JTEK PCM. There was never any CAN bus JTEK pcms made for any manual transmission applications, because the earlier Dakota's that were a a available with 5.2 5 speed combos and all magnum powered rams, auto or manual, used a PCI bus JTEK PCM.

IMO I would say he's better off building a new 4.7, or doing the swap to a hemi. The fab work involved for the hemi would be much easier than the wiring issues of converting the 4.7 to a 5.9.

Drops panties faster than any R/T

so then instead of just an engine harness, get a full harness 97-00.

it's really not all that complicated. esp, if you go the "make shit easy" route

i'm doing the swap. but i'm using the widely neglected MS3 for engine control, a 5psd for trans control and aftermarket gauges to bypass a lot of bullshit from the factory.
