Then you're going to have to get mechanical in order to restore the paint. I can't directly speak to using an orbital buffer as it's on my to be acquired list so I can learn/play with it on my falling apart paint before I mess with a repaint on the truck or another car with better paint.
Long write-up but it's basically all the same no matter what product you use once you get to the buffing, there are some really good videos on YouTube as well. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...pc-7424xp.html

Finish First with a sacrificial layer of different, at least, good waxes. The wax I've used lately is Meguiar's Ultimate wax, a syn polymer deal. I like it.

    Red face

Zaino doesn't leave residue either. And, while waxing, I wipe my windows with it. Works like rainx.

I've tried a lot of different waxes but keep coming back to rain dance carnauba. All by hand with a moistened cotton applicator, microfiber off, and a polished shine with diaper cloth towel. Not a big fan of the meguirs line. If you have light scratches and/or dullness the light compounds really need the orbital buffer to work right, but damn do they work nicely if you do it right. They fly through bonnets though

I use zaino too! great stuff!! If going with a buffer use the makita multi speed. Keep arund 1,200RPM. I would use 3M's 3 steps. Then once your done with that wax it. I use the final inspection from meguiars, great stuff. Wizards shine master is good. Its breathable too for fresh paint so it won't creat solvent pop or die back. Also use micro fibers and a 2 bucket system when washing. Also I wouldn't use a wool pad. keep it all foam, again all from 3M. Wax will take out very fine scratches, well actually just fills then, so after so many washes you can see them again. You neeed to buff them out. Or wet sand but not too much to burn through the clear. Also if its not a daily driver use carnuba, its an orgainc wax that doesn't last as long but has a greater shine. Versus synthetic will last longer for a daily driver just not as a deep rich shine. Any questions let me know! maybe i can help, I have a black dakota so I am very picky on it with no swirl marks or light scratches

I have a Porter Cable 7424XP and a few different 4 or 4.5" pads for it.

I use Menzerna polish and Zaino for a wax/sealant. I apply both with the Porter Cable and buff it off by hand with microfiber.

Chas you definitely need a Porter Cable like mine or something similar. Correcting paint by hand is VERY limited. This machine I have will not burn the paint either, and is variable speed.

Was your truck wet sanded, or did you just use an aggresive pad/compound to get all the fine swirls out.
Haven't seen your truck in person, but was told it's like a mirror finish.

After my last wax, I went to put on my freshly washed car cover and it slid right off the truck and on the ground...so back to the laundry mat it went

I've always used One-Grand waxes and products, starting to venture off to different products carried by AutoGeek.net

wet sanding and polishing to get the orange peel out makes a world of difference I think. But can't do it to an OEM finish.

    Fixed!

My roof is starting to get cancer. I'm afraid of wet sanding the factory clear in other areas to just have it peel off later.

I have used many waxes along the way, Zaino included, but for a simple to use wax, I like Nanowax. If you have some clear coat clouding, it will hide that. It make the good parts look great too. Hiding swirls and light scratches is what it's made for though. The "Nano" part is supposed to be small particles of wax that fill those swirls and scratches. It's cheap and easy to use.
As for a buffer; the biggest thing to know (orbital or not) is use a clean buffing pad and keep that thing moving! Don't linger anywhere.

Do a Google search on Nanowax and read up on the reviews. It's good stuff, plus it's really fast and easy.
