Thread: What did you do to your R/T today?

Went back to the old house and drove the Ape 210 miles to Wilkesboro, NC where my boss is letting me store it in his heated garage for the winter since I won't be able to get it up to the new mountain house in Boone. There is a 1/4 mile track there in Wilkesboro I'll be able to race on Thursday and Saturday nights. The tracks at 1200' AGL so I'm going to need another tune. It drove great the whole way and I had blast getting on it. First time driving it for more than 40 miles since the engine was finished.

Well, I also wanted to get clean scrap price on the aluminum too.

The radiator design could be improved when you analyze the evidence. The in AND out spigots of the rad are almost straight across from one another. This design flaw promotes the flow of coolant straight across the top half of the rad, leaving the lower half with little to no circulation. That in itself probably promoted the build-up seen in the lower cores. It seems simple to me that the hose coming from the thermostat being high on the drivers side would necessitate the opposite side(passenger) to be low to promote total flow utilization.

Here's the pics showing build-up within the cores. Some of it looked to be fairly soft as if maybe a flush might have removed some. Doesn't matter now cause it was toast, but the next guy might wonder what the inside looks like after all these years. One can see the size of the tranny cooler inside. Note that Carlisle made the tanks and MAYBE the entire radiator. Should this have been a proper write-up???

    Enjoy the picture show.

Interesting. I always thought the trans cooler was part of the radiator core, not just a small cooler crammed intonthe side tank.

With as busy as I have been with work, I have had no seat time. Got the rims to stop spinning in the tires, adjusting traction bars and shocks. Leaving at different rpms. The truck has never 60'ed this good
