Y'all should have seen how he had it fixed up; white club cab with copper stripes and white ghost stickers that said "R/T not". It was classic!!

Putting a turbo on one really hurt some feelings. As Barry mentioned, they didn't even want the 4.7 in the pic of trucks lined up in Topeka. They kept moving me back a row at a time until I finally got the hint.

For the final round in Tucson - my opponent's nitrous bottle had run out, so I had him covered by a full second. I knew that the club was too "fragile" to accept a 4.7 R/T Not taking the Outlaw Class Trophy and it would have turned ugly. Some were pissed off and up in arms that I was even allowed to race it at the National meet. Winning was out of the question. I left on the first yellow to red light it away and make sure a Z-code won it. Then ran it out the back door so there was no mistake about who would have won. I had my fun...I didn't need the trophy.
Sounds like typical Mopar ego bullshit to me. Seen and heard about it with the older mopar crowds. Guess it was or is still strong in the late model R/T world. All I can say is fuck those with the blinders on.

Obviously it's not the same now. We let anyone in the club now and anyone can be in the picture. In '07 Rakefet Gill won the brackets in her s/c'd Durango. It was featured in the group pic, front and center.

Back when we first started the club, it was the Dakota R/T Club, not the Dak-Dur-whatever Mopar you own Club.

No, lol. Just trying to point out the fact that there were/are/always will be clubs that try to remain pure to their original intent, but society these days has to make exceptions for everyone, lest their feelings get hurt.

Try getting an LS1 motored Chevette into a Corvette Club and tell me how well that works out.

I simply understood their intent and accepted their way of handling it. The fact that they let me run it at all was proof that they were making the effort to bend the rules to allow me to run. I showed my respect for their precarious position of having to be diplomatic with the rest of the club by throwing the race in Tucson. They would have been in a tough spot if I would have won.

Those were different days. The club has matured now, and isn't as worried about being the purebred elite group it was. Now it's way more about friendly competition, helping each other and comradary.
