Been talking to Martin about the best plan of attack, 727 with manual valve body, his 3800 billet converter and flywheel. Richards trans mount and have "The Driveshaft shop" make my driveshaft. Am I missing anything??

Yeah get a blanket. Shields generally won't clear the crank sensor, and modifying them ruins their cert. Simliarly, make sure martin knows you are still running the stock crank sensor, and clearances the bellhousing for you.

Are you going with a low band apply valve body setup?

Explains it better than i can:

the worst mod you can make to a 727 is put in a cheap manual valve body, without low band apply. this is the one mod that gets em. what happens is it requires the one way clutch { erroneously referred to as a "sprag" whick it is actually not} as the single holding device in low gear. it is not designed for heavy loads. so it breaks, causing the front drum to overspeed, and the front drum can then explode, and kill you. the one way clutch is designed for light loads, such as normal driving in the drive range. when a stock valvebody is in manual low, the one way clutch is the primary holding device, but it is also backed up with the low band applied. so it's in heavy duty launch mode. the majpr malfunction is when you slap in a cheapo common garden variety manual v.b. without low band apply. it's a whimpy mofo and they better tell you so. they may even tell you to do your burnouts in second as to not damage the fragile "sprag'... cuz if you get bite, it busts the sprag. oh no ? what if i get bite when I launch? well what do you think? now for most of the street strip folks out there, guess what? the stock valvebody already is rigged out like you want. it has low band apply. it's still got automatic function. it's not gonna bust. the 727 is just fine stock. I paid an "expert" near 800 bux for his "spin" on a race 727. it lasted 2 runs before the "sprag" self destructed. it had a cheapo reverse manual v.b. without low band apply. it had all kinds of other junk in it he said I needed to "beef it up"... guess what einstein. you don't need all that shit when the sprag fails. buy you better have a safety blanket when it explodes though. what do you need for 500 hp? nothing but a correctly built and adjusted stock 727 . so anyways, 800 bux later, i'm still racing my old reliable stock 727. still waiting for it to blow the fuck up, like everyone says it should have years ago. it's still going as good as ever and the car is still a consistant performer. why fix what ain't broke.

    ^ THIS !!!

A member here just proved this a couple months ago.
Built 727 w/ manual valve body... EXCEPT, he didn't have low band apply.
It lasted until his 3rd run.
    It exploded.
We spent 45 mins. cleaning up the pieces.
Thank God he had a flexplate shield and blanket. It could've taken his feet off.
