Default Dakota Tubular Transmission Crossmember for A518 46RE ‘97-03

I am now producing a tubular transmission crossmember for the 1997-2003 Dodge Dakota for use with the A518, 46RE transmission: http://stores.hi-potek.com/-strse-31...ion/Detail.bok

It takes up less space than the OEM stamped steel crossmember, allows more room for long tube headers, has a cleaner appearance, weighs less, utilizes a heavy-duty 727 poly mount, and has provisions to attach the HiPoTek X-brace for improved handling and off-the-line performance. It is powder coated black.

Note: The stock transmission crossmember weighs 13# and the stock mount and adapter plate weighs 5#. This tubular crossmember weighs 7.5#, the heavy duty 727 mount weighs 2#, and the mount adapter plate weighs 1.75#. So that’s 11.25 # compared to the stock weight of 18#.

Nice...I need to count some pennies.

Available W/O the X brace provision? How does it fit with the Drive shaft loop?
I'll make one without the x-brace provision if interested. If using the x-brace, you'd want to use the x-brace front driveshaft loop. If not using the x-brace, it won't interfer with the HiPoTek Dakota front driveshaft loop. I've start another thread for a Dakota tubular transmission crossmember using the 727 transmission. http://www.dakotart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20920

any pics of the stock and new ones mounted for comparison? is there more clearance on the passenger side for exhaust? the exhaust pocket on the passenger side of the trans crossmember isnt really big enough for the 3'' spintech pipe. it seems as if its probably gonna touch. nice looking piece Richard. great work as always

Dan has some pics of it mounted in his thread, post 227 in the following link:

    http://www.dakotart.com/forum/showth...=14118&page=23

The top of the crossmember sits level with the bottom of the frame rails, and provides a little more clearance than the stock crossmember. There is also more room to the side as well.

Can you make an adapter plate so us who buy the 46re mount and later swap to a 727 can just put on some kind of adapter plate?

At this point I doubt it. I already have a lot of time and expense into this design and making fixtures for it. I’ll have to give it some thought.

Any chance that you'd know if this fits with a 545RFE (i.e. the 4.7 trans)? I'm probably going to swap a hemi into my truck, and that's the trans that the hemi uses. I'm assuming (and that's a big assumption) that the 4.7 uses the same mounting area/point as the 46RE....but I don't know.

If it does, i'll be ordering one of these when I do the swap. X-brace too, and driveshaft loop.

Sell it and buy the proper one if/when the times comes. Or just wait until you have a 727. Both pieces are nice, I wouldn't want to cobble something together and lose some of the weight saving advantage.

    I really have no idea.
