Well, that was a pain in the ....everything.
Tomorrow I'll try to clean the tank out and reinstall the pump.
Fingers crossed it works!!

Well, I guess I did everything right. Its starts and runs.
Danno; did you happen to try to start your truck? I didn't hear mine running either, but apparently it was.

Oh yeah,
Cranked and cranked and cranked... not even any pressure at the rail I even had my head down by the tank and had Ginn turn the key on... still no bueno.
Glad yours worked!

[Kotta390] : Oh that's right! Well FML.....Looks like I am getting shafted because of my bore size
[BlakDak71] : I don't run oil, I run a special blend consisting of Hellman's mayo and the tears of a pregnant mermaid
[Kotta390] : My electric water pump puts out too much fuel at idle and is not a variable pump which makes it overheat in the summer at idle if I sit too long
[KotaRT] : Ed, you can have cake, as long as I get something in return
The newest walbros aren't that loud. The only time I hear the one in my neon is when the tank is so low the bucket doesn't stay filled, I can hear it filling the bucket. The truck has an old holley high pressure 255, and that thing is pretty loud.
Danno- what pump did you get that was a dud?

If the stocker was that noisy, I'm not surprised you had issues with it holding pressure. That new one should be solid for you, until you outflow the regulator.

I never thought of the stock one as noisy. That was the shocking part of this one being so quiet.

Glad you got it worked out, Alan.
Did you have to break anything during the install? I'm just curious, if I ever do this to my truck I would be reluctant to break anything to make it work. I'm just not a hammers-n-duct tape kind of mechanic.
It looked like with Bryan's instructions and your pics that everything came apart as designed (even if it wasn't easy)
Drops panties faster than any R/T
I ended up removing one of the two little nubbs that hang the catch in that sender wire sleeve. Believe me though, one nubb/operational catch is sufficient. I had to take it apart two more times while I was trying to figure out how to securely mount the pump. It wasn't easy to get loose, but it also wasn't difficult-to-impossible, like it is with both catches working.
I also reused the stock square sock filter. It snapped right onto the bottom, so why not?
Other than that, no. Nothing broken, but there were pieces discarded that I would have liked to keep. Like that U shaped filter. If I could have sourced a replacement, I would have put that part back in. It also holds the pump more securely. It's in there well enough that I feel OK about it though.
I don't duct tape or bailing wire shit either....unless I have to, to get home. lol.

Thanks for everyone who added to this thread. I just did the pump in my truck and it worked out perfectly! Grapejuice, thanks for asking all of the questions that i had as well haha.
wouldnt it be easier to run an external pump...this sound like a complete pain in the ^$$ to try and figure out

I have part numbers as well if you need them.
Do you discard the filter on the side of the pump and that's it?

And the clamp you remove from the inlet of the pump, do you just replace with a hose clamp?

So you don't remove the metal ring on the bottom of the pump correct? In order to reuse the factory sock.
Also I assume you remove the grommet in the bottom if the bucket as well? There's like an .5-3/4inch between the bottom of the pump and the bucket bottom, does the hard line just good the pump up?

Bumping this old ass thread to see if there's any info about upgrading an 01+ truck. Everything I'm able to find references pre-01's and I have an 03.
It appears that the fuel pumps are different and I'm trying to figure what those differences are.

Hey, Jason. I'm going to try this kit from Quantum Fuel Systems. It's also listed on their website for slightly more $ but no applications. This eBay auction shows 2003 5.9L as a correct fit. Looking on RockAuto the same drop in fuel pump canister is the same for 1999 and 2003 5.9L. I just can't for the life of me figure out what the curved filter and side nipple on the pump do. Most replacement pumps (not the whole canister) do not have this side nipple that I see on Alan's pics.
