That's actually a pretty decent lookin job.

    Thread jack-

TOM!!! Will this cam or the wiplash work on a 360 bottom end, stock pistons and stock iron heads that have not been shaved??? Or are ther PTV clearance issues? Seriously considering upgrading my cam

Or Hughes has the exact cam above but on a 110lsa.

    End threadjack

Standard answer: if you check your clearances!

I don't see why not, but I don't know how the wider LSA changes valve timing, but my cam, 222/228, .544, 106 LSA works in mine, stock pistons, heads shaved .030, and the .039" head gasket.

do you have a vid of your truck with the cam?

i was also thinking about the 110lsa ... was told the the 106 would be to much for my 318

Hughes also makes a whiplash cam for a 5.2L it's also on a 107LSA, so I don't think the LSA is a problem. it's got less lift though.

something to consider, the 5.2s have flat top pistons to keep their compression up. the 5.2s have less stroke and less bore than a 5.9, so with less "swept volume" the compression ratio will be less given the same head gasket and combustion chambers (same heads onboth engines) so to keep the compression up a little bit, the 5.2s come with flat top pistons vs the 5.9s that have a dished piston.

so, the total lift of .544 on the 5.9 might not even work on the 5.2. I dunno though. you could always roll the dice, mock it up and clay it to check your PtV clearance, or call Hughes and ask them.

    however, the 5.2L whiplash cam is 208/214 @ .050, .512/.520 lift, and 107LSA.

here's the whiplash in my 5.9L

and here it is under power

give me a minute, maybe I'll run out and do a "cold start in the morning" since I had it parked outside last night....

started it up this morning, video just uploaded. realized I have a belt squeak and now that annoys me

anyway, here's the whiplash cam on a chilly morning start-up. (temps were around 50 at the time, but it got down to 30 last night)

Default I need a 350-400 hp top end kit with cam. Suggestions?

I’m looking for a top end kit for my 03 that will bring me to 350-400 hp. I need it to have the cam and be the simplest solution. Any ideas?

when starting from scratch, I would prefer to pick a cam that's the size I wanted and stick to 1.6 ratio rockers.

but, you could just as well pick 1.7 ratio rockers and keep that in mind when picking your cam, so you don't end up too big.

Yes, the edlebrock 58cc heads are typically 62-63 cc, but that's negligible on performance.

a set of flat top pistons with valve reliefs at zero deck with a .039" fel-pro head gasket, and the edelbrock heads will give you around 10.7:1 compression. I believe it was around 10.5:1 on a factory thicknes head gasket.

more than enough compression either way.

the edelbrocks max out their flow at what? .500 lift? .600 lift? been awhile since I've seen a chart, but say it's .500 lift is the peak flow.

you want a cam that gets you to .500 as quickly as possible, and stays at or above .500 lift for as long as possible. i.e. a "square cam lobe" but...a square cam lobe will never work! so get one that's "close" to square. something that gets you up to around .550 lift and a duration of at least 220 @ .050" lift.

Actual cam specs will have to vary on the rest of your build. planned usage, planned RPM range, torque converter stall speed, rear gears, tire size, etc.
