    Default Top Speed?

Question--is there a governor on Dakota R/Ts? I hit 120 today on the highway trying to catch a Volvo S60, and my truck suddenly lost power. It drove just fine after that (100 more miles home), but I didn't try to bury the needle again.

I'm not going to add to the Michigan statement, I'd like to though...But seriously bud, 120 and you are dead or seriously fucked for life...No problem if it is only you...But I've lost people I dearly loved because of dickhead shit like that. And the dick wad is lucky he died too because the hate I feel for him has never left my mind or heart. If you can't be responsible for yourself on the road at least try to be responsible enough for others. And to answer your question...Yes there is a speed limiter, and in your case obviously not low enough.

a few years older these days and just a little wiser, just like the rest of you i think the stupidness of going that fast on any street for any reason can never be quantified.

with that said, we've all been young and dumb and i'd be HARD pressed to believe that there is a performance oriented owner on this board that hasn't buried his needle too. i'm not lessening anything any of you have gone through because of idiots with lead foots... im just "keeping it real" as they say.

to the OP: i think the limiter is at 118. you can get rid of it with any common flash method. what made you think you could catch volvo's sporty sedan at those speeds anyway? you couldn't catch a 87 honda accord at highway speeds. get used to it.

I think there were reports of high 150s with mopar PCMs back in the day. I have to imagine that takes a LOT of road in these bricks.

i took mine to 134, paced by a friends Camaro with a 160 speedo. That was many many years ago and I don't remember what RPM I shut down at, but I'm sure one of you smarty pants could figure that out with stock tires and gears in back.

i've heard of higher 130's, possibly a 14x, but i've never personally heard of anything higher- and i better not because i will hunt you down.

I've had mine up to about 133/134-ish back in the day -- only mods were the Fastman TB, Quick-D intake, Mopar PCM, and 3" Spintech exaust...lol. Had more to go, but I backed out...saw headlights up ahead, wasn't sure if it was a cop or not...HA!

Like Pete said, I'm sure we've all been young 'n dumb in our lifetimes, we just grow out of it and wise up...so I feel that a lot of people that chastise for going fast are being a bit hypocritical...just sayin'.

And, on one final note, I think Gindoy said he got his up to about 150+ on the way to Vegas once racing a Bimmer. Of course, his truck was blown with meth injection and they were runnin' down the backside of Baker Grade toward the state line...lol.

    Closer to 50....Boy

Never was into cars until I got this thing, so I never had anything that was fast. Had a couple 63 Mustangs...Those were not fast, trust me..

    Motorcycles....(Motocross) That's a different story.

I hit the 140 limiter on my old setup, and it was pulling hard right to the limiter, still had a good bit left in her. But like others, I'm older and wiser, a couple of reckless driving tickets will help you grow out of it real quick.

I was on the interstate back when I first got my truck. This was at about 3am and I could see noone. I got mine to 145 on GPS. It took a couple of miles to get there.

My 94 Dakota 318/5spd/390 would shut off at 110 with the stock computer. The MP computer took care of that. "long time ago." No idea what the 99 would do. MP computer as well. Hopefully 110 ish in the 1/4...

I'm pretty sure mine has seen speeds in the neighborhood of 150-160 mph during my 118 mile each way commute to work - but for a very limited time.... and that's in wide-open deserted northern Arizona. No other cars, no people, no cops. Spooky would be a good word for it.
