define problems? Do you mind a check engine light? Rough idle? Little rich?
I ran a .512 cam from comp cams with no real problems. I also ran my current cam without any major problems, its a john m cam.528/.536 lift.

Seems what manifold pressure before the pcm starts having an issue with it would be more along the lines of what you are looking for. Of course, CID makes a difference and I assume you are speaking of your 408.

I think the lobe separation angle of the cam makes a difference. People running a 114 lsa with a stock computer will probably fare better than say a 108 lsa. I know of a couple guys (if I remember correctly) running the Hughes grind on a 114 lsa with 218/228 and .544 lift, and they work okay with the stock computer. One guy has a 318 OBD I and the other guy has a 360 OBD II. However, my 220/230, .512/.512 on a 108 lsa won't run worth a damn on the stock OBD II computer with my 408.

I believe Lloyd Relph ran upwards of .600 lift with a stock PCM. I have no idea what the rest of the specs were though.

First off I'd suggest getting SCT for tuning. Which would be needed either way (before or after the cam). Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Hot rodder rule of thumb....every $1 invested in head flow is roughly worth $3 in the short block

hey every one this guy doesn't want to be bothered by sct. he spun a bearing and is having it rebuilt. with minor upgrades along the way. bored .30 over, mill the heads and clean them up(lil port work). mybe have the runners shortened on the keger. and put a cam that doesnt mess with the factrory computer. so back to the original ? what is the largest cam you can run with out any problem with the factory computer?

The Comp Cams 206/210, .480/.512, 112 lsa will work with the stock PCM.

If he doesn't want to be bothered with SCT then he shouldn't be bothered to do the rest of the Mods you mentioned.

Doing those alone will throw the Fuel Calibration off.

We did it that way for 10 yrs before SCT was even available though. Granted it won't be perfect, but the mods are mild enough to "get away with it" IMO.

Even with modded intake and mildly ported stock heads, it will STILL be too rich at WOT.

Youre friend can probably pick up a mopar R/T or R/T +10 cam for like 90 dollars. These are decent for heavy vehicles.

    '99 R/T- MSIIextra fuel/spark/idle, ZCP mx422 supercharged, ZCP Tbrake 727, PPC 10" 3800, 4.10, (\/) Headers, 2.5" Duals, Truetrac, Boyd Timeless 6's, Hotchkis TVS.
