My 727 should have the reverse lights working but I may need a shifter for the nuetral safety. I was looking at the hurst shifter because it had both reverse lights and the nuetral safety. Hopefully I can get back into my project when I get back from my honeymoon and crawl back into the cave.

    Mike,
Haha, I thought someone else was making them. Had the wrong person in my head. SMR is supposed to have one, but I heard theirs sucks.

SMRs bracket is well made, the problem is it was identical to a stock bracket.

    I still have it...

I'll be using the bracket that Timmy had made years ago, it's heavy as fuck tho (then add the heavy stock cross member), so I'm definitely interested in a lightweight tubular cross member made specifically for the 727 in a GenIII. Someone needs to make this!

The e-mail below may help with the trans mount for the 727 to a Gen3 Dakota. I have the e-mail and photos from him if anybody wants them or just check out his website.

    Mike,

I may have spoke to soon. There is a chance that the 96 trans mt. can be dropped into the same place as the newer and then the tranny adaptor bracket can then be used to bolt to a 727. Michael

Schumacher is sending me one for a test fit. My Dakota was a 5spd V6, I believe that our cross members are the same, if not will someone else test fit this mount on a R/T auto mount to be positive?

    Mike,
I have dealt with Schumacher for years and they are more than willing to build a mount for dodge applications...Hopefully they turn one out soon 'cause I am going the 998 (heavy duty 904) route as soon as I can..96 to 2000 B- vans with the v6 in them are ideal sources for the 998 tranny. Donato Engines in Michigan made me wise to this tranny...He builds alot of them for stock class and other small block racers. Also..I have an older issue of Mopar Muscle magazine that gives all the details about replacing the 46re with a 998 or 727, even shows how do do the notch for the crank pickup.

    Google it.

I think 998's were used behind 318s, and the 999 was used behind the 360.

Hey Dobe', I'm not really sure. I know the 999 was used behind the 360, got a couple of those, I'm just going on what John told me..I'll ask him more about why he recommended it. Something about heavy duty case or something. I know they did put them in the 96 to 2000 B class vans with the V6. I do know that they are both quicker and lighter than the 727. I have to dig up that old issue of Mopar Muscle to see just exacly what they did..Seems I remember everything could be done with hand tools in the garage.

The guy whom built my 727 said it would be better than a 904 because of the weight...But I have a non lock up 999 just in case I loose a ton

I went with the 904 in vader. Its up and running now so I'll let you know how long it survives.

Be aware, with the 904 it moves the start up a bit and you have to shave some the of the housing off the starter and a small bit off the block to get it to fit.

I installed the trans adapter bracket from Schumacher and I had to move my crossmember about 1.1" forward. This was mounted in a Dakota Sport manual anyone with an R/T care to test fit in their truck? Now that my 727 is mounted its the driveshaft and shifter next.

    Mike,
