yea Daren had the red snake skin on his shaker done that way by Phoenix Imaging years ago. its called water transfer.

its actually real simple. don't waste your money paying a ton to have a company do it for you. you can buy the stuff to do it yourself on ebay for like 50 bux. the film and the activator is all you need. theres youtube videos of how to do it. then just clear coat it afterwards

we sell rims at my work that have carbon fiber lips done that way.

notice they don't show you how they do it since its so simple. here is a vid.

anything you can paint you can transfer. its just a coating you put below the clear coat.

lol - there was a lot more to processing automotive parts like mine and darren's than just dipping the part into a big bucket of water plus a couple of chemicals... But as with almost all automotive projects - if you have the right tools and knowledge and time, you can do it yourself for less.

With most automotive parts, Phoenix was sanding & cleaning the parts for a flatter surface for the paint. First came a layer of primer for better adhesion, then they sprayed a layer of automotive paint (using the same equipment as you'd find at a body shop, can specify paint codes for matching). The hydro-graphic pattern was then applied as described in the video, then a layer of clear coat went on after the part dried.

Is it possible to pull that off at home for less? I'm sure it is, people rattle can shit all the time - but you can usually tell the difference. If you or a buddy has experience & equipment to paint cars then you can probably get better results, but once again you're doing all the work.
