im looking into an STS universal turbo kit for my truck. i know i have to get my transmission rebuilt to hold it. its already going bad but im not surprised. i know chrysler is notorious for this. but how safe is it to run any kind of forced induction on a 5.9 with 89k miles?

You should be fine. I think Mopar318 supercharged his around that mileage and now put a turbo on at about 140k miles. His engine is holding up pretty well I believe. Just not his tranny.:jester:

Don't go with any fmu. Go with the sct tune. Call cris at performanc injection equipment he is an sts and sct dealer. With the universal 60 trim turbo I made 360 rwhp on 5lbs of boost. At the time I had a m-1 intake small cam and tb. You'll love the system.

If your on a budget, then a FMU, and inline booster pump will work fine and you will make plenty of power. Duner has proved you can go 10's on this setup. I installed my supercharger around 125k miles, took it off around 145k miles. Now im turboed, but the transmission fried before I started building the turbo setup.

You can have the best fuel system, and tuning available, and still fry your internals if you dont know what your doing. Ive seen tons of people fry there brand spankin new stroker engines within 10 miles. I just wave as I drive by in my old rig.

Yeah, FMU's are pretty limited.
It's tough to make much more than 700 hp with them.
:goodluck:

Honestly, I'm still not sure why FMU's get such a bum rap. They are a tuning tool just like every other thing we put on our trucks.

shouldnt i get everything i want done to my truck first before the turbo so that when its tuned it will be tuned to everything i have done?

That is where I took my truck to PIE or performanceinjectionequipment.com. Talk to Chris he is doing my entire build for me. I say do it right the first time and the only time.

.

700hp? That's it?:jester:
Enough for me I guess.

I wonder at what point my engine would blow if I tried to make that much.:jester:

550?

I don't know for a fact that the R/T actually makes 700 hp at the crank.
I just go by timeslips. All of the online calculators are too optimistic to really tell much. Other than the timeslips, - the only other "hard number" I have is from a dyno session when it went slower with the blower. 582rwhp / 582rwtq, but even then - who knows how much difference the STD correction gave it.

I think the stock 4.7 parts are good to about 500/550 hp.:burnout:
