View Full Version : Finally dropped the truck off to get the Rollbar

Dropped it off today with a local fabricator. Should be about 600 bucks plus whatever he charges to get the seat frame put in also. Only going with a 5 point cause then it gets way to expensive to go under 10's, plus I can't afford to go that fast anyway. He does really good work and he is doing all 5 points to the frame also. Don't think I am going to do a swing out right now, I will have to call him and see what he says about that.

I will post them up on here. Guy is really reasonable. 600 for a 5 point rollbar all done to NHRA standards. He knows all the rules too, so makes it much better. I think a few guys up in this area might be going to him depending on how mine comes out.

Yea I thought so. Gutting the interior was fun. That shit weighs a ton, I did not think it would be that heavy. Power Driver seat I swear was like 60 lbs by itself then the carpet. I was really surprised.

Just going straight, I will make a 6 inch extension to brace the seat though. I got a cheap one from Summit, just have to make up a good frame.

I've built a few cages before, and I prefer to use straight sticks and a bender. I've worked on a kit install, and it's more work to make it fit right, than it is to make one from scratch. Especially when parts like the main hoop are too wide.

Steel, I asked about Chrome-moly and he said he didn't have a mig welder. Not a big deal, cost more anyway. Not going to win any land speed racing anyway.
ADakotaRTGuy

Went and dropped off a replacement seat since the one they sent me was all jacked up. He already started on other small stuff. Dropped the gas tank to get all the fuel lines out of the way and moved a bunch of the harnesses out of the way also. He also started doing the frame for the seats, nothing special really just measuring and stuff, but while I was in his shop I saw a hood he painted and was simply amazed by the detail. Jack of all trades you might say. He made a Nova's hood a carbon fiber look with punching a bunch of holes in some shit I don't know. Then he did the paint on it. Flames look very very clean. He was waiting on the pipes to come in so had not started on the actual roll bar yet.

yup, bad check valve on passenger side. At idle I pulled the driver side breather and there was a small amout of vacuum, reved it up and there was a ton more. Also noticed a small amout of smoke (less then normal) coming out of the driver side valve cover hole. Pulled the passenger side breather and there was no vacuum at idle. Reved it up and it blew exhaust gas out of the breather. There was no smoke coming out of the passenger side valve cover hole. Waiting on jegs to send me a new check valve.

I should pick up a little more hp when its fixed. I remember reading somewhere that they did dyno testing and saw a 10hp increase switching to a evac system from a regular PCV. Figure with the evac system you are getting a increase in crankcase vacuum as rpm (exhaust) increases rather then none with the PCV during WOT. In my case I was presurizing the crankcase reducing ring seal so it should be even more of a difference compared to a PCV valve.
but end thread jack, get it done and post pics, hurry lol

Went to day to drop off the swing out kit and checked up on his work. He still does not have the steel in from PA, not sure what the hold up is. But he did get the seat in and it looks pretty damn good. Had it spot on to where my seating position was. He made a front and rear bracket that bolts right to the stock brackets, very clean. He said he prefers to do the full 6 point because of the sturdyness it adds to the to the frame, I am going with it. Won't drive around with the sidebars but will put them in when I got to the track.
So if anyone wants his number PM me, he is willing to do more.

Well I went and dropped off the second swing out kit and took a look at the progress. I have to say I am really impressed with his work. All of a sudden a 5 point turned into a 8 point, haha. I took a couple pictures with my cell phone. Should finish up this week or weekend. I like how he went out the back of the wall, will not interfere at all with the bed mounting and adds a little strength to the frame.
Anyone have an email so I can send them the full size pictures and host them somewhere, cant do it at work. ?

I'm set up for coil overs, would have to deal with a panard br or eq, but you'll have to get the truck on a 4 wheel scale, after you get the coil over shock mounts welded up.
There's a guy on Moparts building a sick Gen II...He's staying with Caltracs and monoleafs...Might be because of his class, but he can build anything.
My set up hooks like glue, but I'm only 320 to the wheels...Well see when I spray another 100...I'm saying it'll work...I don't even bother to change anything with shocks, caltracs, shock location/settings. It's where it was when I put it all on...Slicks are at 16-18. Or so....LOL
I unload it....short burn out, don't even use the line lock...JUst mash the gas in 2nd. Stage, launch at about 3K...or just till it starts to push the truck through the beams and go.

I get better a contact patch with a 11" slick on my 10" Rim. I used the pair of 12.5 MT's that came on my Bogarts, by the time I was getting full contact, I'd be a 10 psi....With the 11" tires on my 10" rims...It's perfect...If I ever make enough power to need 13" tires, I'll run 12" rims.

Roll bar is done, damage = 1300 bucks, Damn it to hell.
I got a lot done though. Orginal quote for a 6 point was 600, but I added a bunch of shit to it. So I got
8 point roll bar (on his own accord)
Seat installed with seat bracket that bolts to the stock bolt holes
Seat back brace
Cal tracs Modified cause I did not want to order the new brackets (cut lower hole out)
Two swingouts installed
Camera Mount Made
5 Point Harness installed
Not bad I think
Will pick it up tomorrow during lunch then drive it home. Ready to go to the track Friday I hope.

Yea, I asked him to make a camera mount on the cross bar to mount my video camera, in cab like a MFer. He said he was going to make it removable. Have not seen it yet. Told him not to paint it either cause I have to do a lot of shit inside still, did not want to scratch the shit out of it.

Finished product, problem? Damn stock seat belt don't fit back in. My fault I never told him I was putting them back in. Damn it. Will have to figure something out. For now, I am rolling with the 5 point harness.

Damn man, that would be awesome, soon enough though. I would think the prep should be good, but you never know.
Chris has a used nitrous kit at the shop, I have been thinking about a 125 shot a lot lately. Just worried about the tranny holding it haha

You got a valve body? It would be wise to get that next. Talk to Martin Saine he can tell you a lot about what will make it last.

Pretty close to done now, painted it with POR 15, thanks Todd for the can of it. Screwed up the carpet by the drivers side, but oh well it happens. I waited to do that one last also so I could figure out a good way to do it. Got most of the interior back in also. Going to do the headliner another day cause I had to do a touch up on the bar in a few places. Getting the rear panels and seatbelts are going to be a pain in the ass.

The only thing I don't like (other than the fact that it's in your truck not mine).... is the mount behind the seat for the shoulder harness

I actually ordered a wrap around and summit sent me a bolt in, but I said fuck it, I will just use it. What is it you don't like about it? That in bolts into the bar?

Yup, ran it with full interior minus the passenger side seat for that run. However I did not have the roll bar in there, but I did have the Thunderform, haha.

yup... I would have made some brackets and welded them to the bar rather than have the harness bolt to the bar
Did he make anything to bolt the seat back to when you put the plastic one in at the track?

Yup, but I might cut off the top part of it cause I can feed the belts through the back of the seat now. Wonder if there is a requirement for a certain number of bolts.
