View Full Version : Keep or remove rear sway?

I'm gonna go with some blocks to level my truck out. I'm at 3/4" in the rear right now, but cut the front springs some and need to level it out again. The stock end links are on but I think they are borderline binding. They've worked ok up to this point. Anyway, going any further I'm thinking to just remove the rear sway altogether. I don't hit the curves hard. No sway up front right now anyway.

Well, is it a daily? Just for drag? Or what?

Well, is it a daily? Just for drag? Or what? It's daily, half way. I 've got the awesome handling, lol, 90/10 drag shocks on the front anyway. Didn't know if the the rear sway helps keep the rear axle straight to the ground and helping my 60ft. It's been doing decent thus far on street tires. I'm thinking it just may float a little but shouldn't be as bad as an old caddy. Oh, I've got poly bushings in the leaf springs too.
I think you can see the direction I'm leaning. Mainly worried about off the line traction.

Yea I see where you're going...
Personally, I'm going to fine tune my suspension to the max, and keep the rear sway bar and try to get as much traction I can get. I'd like to get it all working together. I do see the weight of the bars coming in as a problem at the strip though, but not decreasing your traction. Maybe the some new, shorter endlinks?
You can't have amazing cornering ability and amazing straight line performance with the same setup. I'd like to know how to do that...

Oh, I'm not looking for that. That's not realistic. I can see where the sway bar could help control axle movement though. Just hope I don't see a change for the worse.

What bar do you have? Hotchkis or OEM? OEM links are weak...

Ah there just some moog ones I bought just over a year ago. They may not be worth keeping on. I'll just haul them up to store at my parents garage attic with the rest of my stock parts someday.

LoL.
Well I wonder if a stiffer sway bar would increase straight line traction? If you could hold it straight it would, otherwise once it goes sideways a little bit it would break loose.

I could get some spherical rod ends and threaded I.D. tube and make some adjustable end links.

Exactly where I was leading... ;)
I'm trying to do that for the front, once I get it setup exactly how I want it.
