I was looking at getting the Innovate LM-2, but after reading some of the posts on the Innovate forum board it seems they are having a lot of problems with it. So I thought maybe I should just get the LM-1. Looks like most on this board are happy with the LM-2 though. So give me your feedback on your LM meters, please.

So give me your feedback on your LM meters, please.I've complained about it before but I eventually called and all it was, was I was trying to datalog too much for the speed of the JTEC computers in our trucks.

It can be quirky. I was datalogging 6 things, now just four. No reason why it just stopped connecting to pcm while having the handheld programed to log 6 parameters. Came out of nowhere. Maybe when I accidently arc'd off the battery cable it screwed something up, pcm? Everything works fine though. Then I changed to 4 per the tech guys recommendation and no more probs. Datalog traces on graph are smoother also.

Just have to make sure it's recording when you press record when in the staging lanes also. I like the fact I don't have to cut into factory harness. Nothing beats the factory harness and it's connections for reliability. It's when you start cutting and splicing that there can be elec probs.

I have no experience with anything else but I'm satified with it and it can log about 100 parameters if memory serves me right. Everything the pcm sees is apparently recordable. Not sure if other brands or models can do that. If you get it, make sure you keep the manual on your desktop, etc. You'll need. It's not rocket science by far, just hard to remember some of the step to change what you are recording. Especially when it's been months since you've done it.

I have the LM2 and love the fact that I don't have to splice anything to get it to work.

I am recording 7 things plus the AF ratio. I set the non-essential stuff (Engine coolant, IAT, Vehicle speed) to a low priority because they are not as important as MAP, Timing, RPM & TPS.

Here is a sample of one of my logs:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a262/emwhite/Dakota%20RT/logsample.jpg

I will admit that it is buggy at times. Like it will randomly freeze when I have the O2 sensor & OBD II connected. Sometimes it will be fine for a day and the next time it will freeze after every run. I've read that the LM2 is too sensitive to voltage changes, so that may be causing the "freezing" that I see.

It's been a great tool and definitely worth the money that I spent on it. I got in on a deal from a Taco Xrunner website deal. So I got it shipped to my door for $315 or so. So be on the look out for it.

Innovate's support is damn near non existent over the phone or the forums. They will tell you to upgrade the firmware to fix it.

I've used it on my '03, an '00 and a '98 without issue. I had to upgrade the firmware to 1.10c to get it to read on the '00. Which was strange but then by default it worked on the '98.

There is only like 30 parameters that it can actually read from Dodge but it has the capability of like 100 as said above.

I don't think you can even buy an LM-1 at this point. They weren't very friendly to hook up either compared to the LM-2. It was RPM, AFR and 0-5V inputs. You had to run wires to the adapter and tell it what 0V was and what 5V was and it would interpolate in between. It wasn't very intuitive either in some places in the manual.

He said it wasn't connecting because of the number of parameters. I didn't even tell him I was previously recording 6. Went to 4 and it starting connecting to pcm again. Someday I may try to go to 5 and see how it acts. Go figure...

I have mine set to auto to recognize my computer. It says it is some GM but I don't recall.

What Firmware version are you using? I am using 1.11c with the best luck so far. I refuse to go to the latest one.

I just did an update when I was chasing my tail on what I thought was a tuning issue(ended up being fouled out o2's) last Sept. I bet that's it. I need to stop updating crap, lol. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Same with computers.:D

I like the Lm-2 alot. I bought it for the ease of hooking up through the OBD port. I usually log 6 parameters but atleast 4 set on low. Only thing I have notice is it will always error if you leave the OBD port plugged in when starting the truck. You want to always make sure to unplugg it before starting or the O2 sensor errors.

TroyI've got that procedure down. I've tried a couple times recently just leaving it in at the track and it actually worked! Maybe something to do with number of channels.

Before I had 4 on normal priority and 2 on low.

haha :jester:

Maybe you could write up a tutorial, the manual isn't always that easy to read, especially something foreign.

Looks like I'll get the LM-2. Anybody know the best deal price wise. 375.00 is the lowest I've found it.

Sounds about right. I think there is a "bare bones" kit that they introduced. It doesn't have the fancy case and a couple of wires and a memory card...I think...

$295.68 with free shipping but you will need a memory card ($10 or less) and the OBD II interface cable ($25); which is also on Amazon.

LM2 Basic

OBD II cable
http://www.amazon.com/Innovate-Motorsports-3809-Interface-Accessory/dp/B001S7PGBW/ref=acc_glance_auto_ai_-2

The case is nice but not worth $50 in my opinion...but it saves you another $50 and no shipping!

Just buy any SD memory card. I think it has a 2gb limit but I don't know for sure.
