Recently Bought a 2001 Dakota R/T, and i am very happy with it. However, I am getting sick of all these freakin little ricers with their retarded little coffee can exhaust trying to race me....

ANYWAYS, I saw that STS has a universal twin turbo kit, and i was wonduring if anyone has ever tried it on a dakota.... Any advice would be appreciated. My truck is completely stock except for a steering wheel cover. lol. Do you think that the stock motor can handle it???

Any advice???
Thanks

Welcome newbie!
I'm not too far from ya... North end of T-town.
I don't think anyone on here is running an STS twin kit. There is one that I know of running a single STS.
And there are a few of us running single turbos from different companies.

If you are completely stock, running any twin turbo set up will eventually eat that stock motor up and spit it out. Unless of course you dial the boost way down. Then why do it in the first place?
The few that have single turbos are plenty quick, and most of us have built our blocks and trannies to handle it.
I would suggest hanging around on here and reading up on what folks have done to make their trucks faster. Start off with small modifications first, then work your way up to power adder later.

Hell, even a stock R/T can beat those ricers.

Welcome!!

There are a few running Twins but not sure if there are any STS brand?

As White Turbo stated you have a few other issues to address before you go that far with mods.

1. Traction (I reccomend Cal-Tracs)
2. Tuning (SCT is the only way to go)
3. Fuel system (if you got twins, a complete return system would be the way to go)
4. Transmission with twins you'll definitely need to beef it up!!

Yeah, i am kinda lookin ahead a ways, but i am so freakin excited. White turbo your from Tacoma??? Thats awesome!!! i hardly ever see Dakota R/T's around here... My Trans mechanic said that there is a Boing engineer that has an older dakota that has like 100 grand under the hood and i believe he lives in seattle. Wow. how crazy would that thing be...

There is a guy selling a GTK-850 turbo on this forum. I looked it up and the power range is 700-875HP!!!! Wow. ME LIKEY. lol. Yeah... a guy also sent me a message sayin he builds the turbo kits for R/Ts so i might check him out also.

Thanks for the help yall...
Oh, and ill look for your Dakota White turbo... I work at fedex in Fife and go to tacoma quite a bit...

SCT is nice BUT a full standalone is light years ahead of that. Pricier yes but you get what you pay for.

That Boeing engineer, is his name Ron Ellingson?

You can check out the Delphi forum for a thread on that GTK-850.

Also you can check out turbotechnologyinc.com for kits.

I'm in Ruston but I don't drive it much on the street anymore. Mostly sits in the garage now:jester:
Check out Bremerton Raceway in the spring if you want to see it.

Well DUH!!!:drive::rockwoot:

Great right up until registration/Emission time.

I personally use BS-3 but mine won't be seeing the streets any more either.

I could get away with it in Tx and Ga but when I move to AZ. Forget it, not happening!!

If I can ever get it off the Chassis Jig and back home and put together.

Got 90% of the parts, just waiting on Bob to finish the Chassis so I can get the Motor put together!!

I was shooting for 1400-1500hp???

I threw a few extras in the mix and everyone that I have talked to and has seen what I am working with swears it should make 1700-1900 easy???

I'm hoping to have some pics sometime this week?

Ed,
I don't know if we ever talked about this, but I was born and raised in Tacoma until 1976. I grew up around the Tacoma Mall, I used to go to the boys club on 48th back in the eaely 70's.
I went to Holy Rosary close to downtown, there was an A & W just over a bridge that we used to get .19 coney islands on Tue. and .19 Root beer floats on Thur.................... That was a long time ago!!!!!!

No kiddin?

I grew up in the same area So. 59th & Cushman. Mann elementary school. Stewart junior high. Then graduated from Lincoln high school in '77. The A&W was on "G" st. it's gone now.
Hell I went to the same boy's club back in '71 !!
I used to hang around with my buddies in the Lincoln Heights area across from the mall. We used to play football at Wapato and Alling Park.
You probly know right where I'm talkin about.... That whole area has sure changed since I was a kid. Not a very good neighborhood now.

Damn Dude !! Memories !!

Yeah I remember the little store by Mann...I went there many times for candy myself. And Frisbees for donuts..... Both are long gone now. I remember the mayor, but I never knew he lived on I st.
The soccer field is now a baseball practice field behind Lincoln. Lincoln bowl now has a nice artificial turf field.
And the old A&W is a teriyaki joint now :jester:

If we were closer in age, we probly woulda hung with some of the same kids together.

you think the r3 will hold 1700-1900?

Actually it has been proven to hold well more than that, and more than a few times.

Remember the 6'sec Avenger Video that was floating around a few months back. He was running a W-7 or 8 headed R-3 and made 1300hp on the dyno with 7psi boost. Running a 6-sec pass he's more like 2000+hp.

There are a few others out there pushing right in the middle of the 1000-2000hp mark.

Also after seeing what the F&C guys have been working with, It appears they have been taking a lot of ideas from Mopar on their small blocks for Turbo use.
