hello all i am in need of a tune up on my truck what are the best plugs to put in these things...

i have always had good sucess with autolight 3923 copper core plugs i think they are $1.29 a peice. Everytime i change the plugs i change the cap and rotor with an echlin brass terminal cap and rotor from napa. They whole tune costs around 30 bucks.

Autolites as was previously stated or NGK's work well to. Avoid Champion.

what about bosh platnums? are they ok to use? should you gap them bigger then .040?

No need to waste your money on platinum plugs. Stick with the copper core. 3923s are available at your local wal-mart:walmart:

go for the ngk 4291 v-groove plugs. They have the extended tip for better combustion but are still one heat range cooler than stock which is good. Ive tried the autolites too but they simply arent that good they dont last very long and dont have the extended tip which is very beneficial on our trucks.

what about bosh platnums? are they ok to use? should you gap them bigger then .040?

I won a set of Bosch platinums at a car show. I ran them for a while, but I didn't notice any power difference--negative or positive. Idle quality was a little better. I currently have Autolites in the R/T. When they are worn out, I will put the Bosch plugs back in.

I have E3's in my jimmy, and plan on putting them in the Dak when it comes time.

i put the bosh's in the old plugs looked good but i just did it to know when it was done. now the wire, cap and coil are corroded so i brushed the coil "tit" to bear metal and got wires and a cap and rotor. but my tension pulley froze today so i have to get that and a belt. so im off again to the parts store.

the tensioner froze on my truck but i knew it was going to b/c i heard the bearing whinning but was going to wait til the weekend to change it out. It lasted til friday though.

mine got me home so i took the nissan to the parts store. but the rt is up and running strong i think it has a 3k stall. it seems like the more i drive it the more it seem to have a higher stall then stock or what i think stock would be. when the truck shifts into 2nd i lay on the gas and it revs right to 3k and then starts pulling. but who knows

Call me a rebel, but I use the Autolite standard replacement plug. I've never really had the need to run a colder plug, #3923. IIRC the reason guys were running those plugs was because they were having problems with detonation. If you aren't having those issues, or you aren't supercharged or running nitrous, then just use the replacement style.

I use the stock heat range NGK FR5-1, it's the v-power plug.

I tried the 3923's and didn't care for them. Less throttle response, torque, and mileage. The projected tips are the best way to go imo. Better combustion, flame propagation. I would go one heat range colder as these trucks seem to ping for others. If it's 2001 or older try the NGK zfr6f-11. Standard plug for the 2002-03 5.9. If you need colder you can try NGK zfr7f-11 (part # 2975) that's the coldest plug I can find for NGK on our trucks. I like the NGK's because, for the money, the spark plug is easier to fire due to the sharp edges of the V groove feature and another plus is they don't rust like the autolites. Best plug for the money imo, 1.98 per plug around here at Advance. Oh, the projected tip and shorter ceramic of a colder plug should be good for a very slight bump in compression. I have no fouling issues with my plugs also.
