There's only two companies that make long-tube headers for the Dakota...
John Mercedes @ www.southeastperformance.com has a custom set of 1 3/4" diameter long tubes. I believe he also has 1 5/8" diameter tubes available as well.
Marty @ www.krcperformance.com takes a set of 1 5/8" diameter Hooker headers for a different truck and converts them for use on the R/T.
Dave @ www.spintechmufflers.com (Rick @ www.truedualexhaust.com will be a vendor) is working on a set of long tube headers, I dunno if they're 1 5/8" or 1 3/4", not released yet but supposedly soon in the future.

Don't usually find the words "low price" and "long tubes" in the same sentence :) But Steve pointed out the current options. What are your plans for the truck? Spintech's midlength headers have worked really well on a lot of trucks, and without any of the install hassles that you get with longtubes.

looks like hooker got the word that the 5803 would go on our trucks..used to be able to get a painted set for around 250.00 now they just sell the ceramic coated version for almost 700.00..WOW

im trying to do headers y pipe and a muffler and get a chip for about 600 bucks. i have a mig and know how to use it so that will help but i just want to know if shorty headers are good? i have a cold air intake and a low temp stat. how much more power could long tube vs shortys be??

Longtubes are gonna be a PITA to take on and off for smog or try to get sneak by.
I'm thinking about getting an easier set of headers to bolt/unbolt. Like spintech's full kit w/o cats. Than get a set of eddy headers w/ cali E.O. and bolt on for inspections (when i'm not racing). Just hood up stock exhaust real quick. should be a decent swap once every two years.

Rather than swap headers just stamp the Edelbrock EO# on the flange of the Spintechs and call them Eddies!

thats a good idea. and if that doesnt work, cant you make friends with a shop that might let you squeak by for a small price?

you probably wont be able to get all that for $600, well not new anyway. Also when you say chip, you do mean like a programmer or a mopar performance PCM right? Because a jet chip is just about worthless.

Mopar PCM will be good. I'd save up for the Spintech midlengths, they're $680 new, but you might be able to find a used set cheaper.

Yeah I think you will enjoy it. I like mine. Its good for motors that just have minor mods.

Spintech and Mopar/PPHs are the only ones I'm aware of. The Mopars aren't being made anymore, I think there was a group buy recently for the last ones made. You can get the Spintechs from Rick at www.truedualexhaust.com

Shorty headers are not much more than glorified exhaust manifolds. Some may argue that point, but it's been dyno proven.

Dave, still trying to round up people for the last batch in existence. To the OP...$575 + shipping will get you a set of nickel-finish Mopar/PPH Headers and the Y-pipe that comes with them. You would be #4 for this buy if you decided to do it, still need another 4 after that for the deal to go down though. You're not gonna do Headers, Y-pipe, Muffler, and PCM for $600 though...not without getting some of that stuff for a 5-finger discount at least... :jester:
