My factory deck has served it's purpose...it no longer works. My potna gaveme his factory deck from his 05 ram. They look identical. Will his deck work in my dak rt? Also, how hard is it to remove and install?

If the plugs on the back are the same, you should be good.

as far as removing the deck, is there a way that i can just pop it out of the dash or do i have to remove the whole dash board to get to it? (never done this before)

I've had mine out before, but it's been years ago. If I remember right, pull the dash bezel straight out (it will pop right off), then there's 4 screws holding the stereo, remove those, unplug everything. I do remember it only takes about 3-5 minutes at best.

I know you said you have the deck out of a ram, but I think I would go with an aftermarket deck. You can pick up a nice deck with alot more features and sound quality than a factory deck for $150-200 from www.crutchfield.com . If you go to the website and enter your vehicle info it will pull up everything that will fit. They typically offer free installation accessories as well (mounting brackets, wiring harnesses, vehicle specific intallation instructions, etc.). I have bought several products from crutchfield and they are always great and have come with all the accessories I needed for the install and all went smoothly. Just an option to consider.

Crutchfield is EXPENSIVE.I honestly dont see why people buy from there.I get all my stereo equipment from http://www.sonicelectronix.com/
For example if you wanna get a head unit like mine,Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT,crutchfield has it for 570.00.Sonic electronix has them for 399.99.BIG DIFFERENCE.
You will need a single din head unit for an 03 dak and an installation kit for the wiring and for the head unit itself.Install kit is 10.00 and the wiring kit is another 10.00 compared to the 53.00 total crutchfield says theirs costs.
By the way my pioneer head unit kicks ass.

I agree that crutchfield is a bit high on their prices, but they do give you the free installation accessories and tech support if you need it. This is the main reason I like crutchfield. Espacially if you are not sure on how to get the old components out and the new ones in (some vehicles are very complex to change out stereo components). I too have bought some components from sonic electronics as well as etronics.com, but they typically do not offer free install accessories or instructions. As I said crutchfield is one of many options, you just have to decide how much money you want to spend and if you will benefit from the free accessories and instructions.
