Jeep GC Recall Fan
Part # CBG4F250 from Mother Mopar
Rated at ~4000cfm
19" dia
3" thick
looks to have the same connection as what's on my 2000 R/T
Under $50.00 shipped

once i get the new radiator i'll have more pix of the install (including pix of brackets). i'll also do an amp draw test on it to see how many amps this thing pulls. may need to put a larger fuse in. i'll also be putting a weather strip around the edge that will face the radiator.

I have already done this. You will need to upgrade to a 30 amp fuse.It blew my original right off the start. Not the one underneath the hood but the one inside truck.I dont know what year your truck is but mine has this one big rod that attaches to radiator support in the middle and each end attaches to the frame on both sides of the truck. Now I just lined my fan up and drilled 2 holes in that rod and used bolts and nylon nuts to mount 2 of the 3 mounts and then got a piece of angle iron and welded it to the frame on the bottom to mount the 3rd hole. And its been working great. Now be careful on how close you put it to the radiator because I thought I wasnt close and got it all installed and the fan actually pushes out a little when it turns on and it rubbed a hole in my radiator causing me to get radiator fixed and repositioning the fan.I actually had to put a 1/2" spacer and a little longer bolts that the rod bolted to my radiator support.Heres some pics.I know they arent the prettiest.I havent gone in there to dress it up a little.Been a little busy but I have had it like this for a month or 2 and have had absolutely no problems at all from it and it cools pretty good.

Thats good that you can do all that because I scratched my head over and over wondering how the hell im gonna get this bitch on.I even tried to pull up some pics on how they are mounted on the jeeps.Still couldnt find any so I just did it that way.It works the way I have it and keeps it cool even with the a/c running my head pressure never goes more than 175 psi.Cant wait to see how you do it though because I might redo mine and copy off ya.LOL

If you've got a brake, just bend up some aluminum for a shroud. It'll probably work well for ya either way. Hell of an idea for a kit if you can get shrouds for that thing. $50 for that cfm is awesome!

Truthfully it really doesnt need a shroud. That fan is as big as the radiator.I can hold a shirt 6" away from the condenser and it will suck it up into the tranny cooler I have in front of it.In 90+ degree weather at idle with the a/c on it keeps my temp at the line above C on temp gauge and my head pressure on the a/c sits between 150-175.If you could make a shroud for it then it wouldnt be much of one since its as big as the radiator.

Cheaper!!! And you dont have to have a shroud. The fan is just as big as the radiator.Im not familiar with the HHR fan so maybe someone else can dial in on that one.But im glad I got it.Its been working great for me.

I went to the dealer and it was the wrong fan shroud. We pulled the right one off the computer but they have to order it.Price went up to 50.00.Which still isnt bad.I found one on ebay for 31.00.

If you google the part number 52079489AB you can look at a couple of places.Rock auto has them and they actually have the dimensions.I still ordered from the dealer just so that if it wasnt gonna fit I could get some of my money back.Im just worried about if I have to lose my coolant and washer fluid reservoir since mines part of the factory shroud. If I have to lose it then im not installing it but will make sure that it will so you guys with the older trucks could do it since yalls trucks coolant reservoir and washer fluid reservoir isnt like the newer ones.It should be here tomorrow and will let yall know whats going on.Heres the dimensions.

If you have to lose them why wouldn't you just go with a 99 style washer reservoir?

00'+ trucks can't use the 97-99' coolant reservoir, the radiator is different and is mounted directly below the rad upper brace, instead of behind like in earlier trucks. The OEM bottle doesn't fit in the correct location, even though the holes are there to mount it.

I'm running a 97-99' washer bottle, and a custom coolant overflow bottle. So if this jeep shroud works I'll consider it.

Yeah I found out that the hard way a couple years ago, so I went with a jaz tank and 99 style wiper reservoir.

Okay guys I pretty much got the fan and shroud fabricated and ready.Just need to do some minor painting of the brackets and find something to put underneath the shroud since I had to cut 4 inches off the bottom.I recessed the fan into the shroud.I used a dremel and cut notches out for the mounting tabs on the fan.I just stuck them through and bolted the one on the bottom to the bottom of the shroud. This thing is really in there tight and I know it will work pretty good.It looks pretty damn good to mounted on the radiator.OBSERVE......
Heres the radiator before install.
http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/bobradley4/IMG_4752.jpg
I had to make this bracket so that it will mount on the drivers side.
http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/bobradley4/IMG_4753.jpghttp://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/bobradley4/IMG_4760.jpg
I welded the bolts in the bracket for easier installation.

I had to cut notches with a dremel 4 inches from the shroud inlet to get the fan recessed in there.
http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/bobradley4/IMG_4757.jpg
Heres it installed on radiator.I know the brackets look bad without them being painted and curved. This is a rough cut and will get through with everything tomorrow.

When I get my motor back together,im figuring next week, then I will get some pics up.Right now the timing chain and all are off so you cant tell how far it is from the motor.

You can mount that fan closer to the radiator if you like. When I put the shroud up against my radiator it was four inches taller than the radiator. So I had to cut the bottom off 4 inches. On a 99 and below the radiator is exactly the right size as the shroud.
2000 up radiator=23.43x18.8
1999 and below=22.5x22
Jeep radiator=23.4x21.8

I believe the 99's will be alot easier to install these on since I dont think you would have to cut anything.Just make your own brackets and bam.

On another note...The way Jeep has these fans mounted on the shroud its not centered with the opening of the shroud.Instead its at the bottom of the shroud.Which im sure will work just fine if you want to install it the way its supposed to be.Since I had to cut 4 inches off the bottom to make shroud fit the radiator,I cut 2 sections in the shroud on each side so I can stick the mounting arms from the fan through and then bolted the bottom mounting arm to the shroud.I didnt bolt the other mounting arms.i figured it would be pointless to do since its not going anywhere.I can pick the radiator and shroud up by the fan and the fan doesnt move at all.Its definitely in there solid. Now if you wanna get down to it so that it looks like its supposed to be mounted like that then you can get a piece of 1" angle iron and cut a 1 inch section out of it and drill a hole on each end and put a small bolt and nut through shroud and then to mounting arm.I might just do that just to make it look like its supposed to be there.Im hoping to get everything done to it today.Im having a wisdom tooth pulled so it depends on how I feel.I will post pics up if I do.If not then it will be tomorrow.

Hey man,go to my thread http://www.dakotart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7847&page=7

I got you a diagram of the efan relay circuit. Also the way I had mine mounted was the fan was on the inside, closest to the radiator,of the brace. The tab thats closest to the wiring harness points down. The other two tabs will mount to the brace like so. Now I had to put a couple of nuts and use them as spacers on the 2 bolts that bolt side by side each other at the top of the brace to make the brace come out towards engine so the fan wouldnt hit the radiator. You have to do this because I learned the hard way and rubbed a hole in my radiator.

I installed it...spent around 7hrs playing with the truck. I haven't worked on it in weeks and weeks, probably months.

I used huge commercial zipties, one on each tab, and I bolted the square tab straight down in the middle of the lower rad support with a heavy duty L-bracket. It's on there real sturdy.

Then I polished and remounted my overflow canister, it was in there vertically and now it's horizontal. It's sealed, so it won't leak from the cap, plus it looks cool lol.

I also adjusted the control module, I gotta say, that Hayden piece is great quality. Works like a charm!

Pictures coming soon! Thanks again, bos and uwnt

Any upate on pics?

I really don't want to invest in a new shroud. I take it the big attraction here is PNP right? I actually have 2 extra plugs under the hood that weren't hooked up to any thing on the 318, I wonder what they are, and if I could power a fan from it?

Over all I think I might be better off w/ a controller and a fan that fits my shroud.

Here try this link. This fan doesnt need a shroud. I was just trying to make it look better. But with a shroud its more efficient. I ran it for a couple of weeks before I fabbed the shroud and it worked fine.

Also I have a 180 tstat, would I set the fan to come on at 180? What about in the winter if I want more heat available, maybe set it to 190 in the winter?

I got my fan from wycoff, it was under $50 shipped.

Now I need a fan controller. I don't really care if I have an extra turn on switch in the cab, a set temp to turn it on is just fine.

I have the fan controller that comes with a Flex-A-Lite Black Magic 180 fan that I was going to list for sale sooner or later. I am just heading out the door now, but I could get you pictures later if you'd like. I would have to look it up to see what it' even worth. It's brand new...I bought a SPAL V3 fan controller and installed it with the fan.

Alright so I keep popping 25A fuses for this fan and I'm not sure if I should go to a 30A...really frustrating this is the second one blown.

Edit: Alright scratch that, my mistake. Read the 3rd post.

I'm super tempted to do this...I want to ditch that clutch fan already! How does this compare t othe HHR fan?

just pulled water pump off r/t because it was leaking coolant.Come to find out the fan was actually trying to draw the impeller through the housing. It shaved a 1/4-1/2 inch off the housing.Ditch that fan clutch crap!! I went with a thermostatic control and a derale 19 1/2" fan (high cfm).

sorry if this has been answered already, but i am looking to do this in a couple of weeks, and had a quick question. It seems most everyone posting about this is back east... we just had our first 100+ degree day in Phx and I was wondering how this would hold up in 115 degree, being that it is just the one fan instead of 2.
