Well since I just did new top rings,, I've been running around in town and on the freeway seating them.

Since I haven't raced it yet this year, I decided to re-set the overhead computer and see what the avg. economy was.
I've been gettin on it quite hard in town for short distances, then letting off, 4000-4500 rpm 1st and 2nd gear shifts, etc.

I was surprised to to see the economy at 12.1 mpg....
Not bad for the mods I have... 54 lb. injectors, DFI, turbo, etc.
Anyways,,, you guys with overhead computers, what are you gettin for avg. fuel economy out there??
Probly a lot better than me !!:jester:

17.7 was the best I got. It seemed to get better with mods. :jester:

Hi Ed,
I don't know if I would put a whole lot of stock in the overhead computer. Most I've had were off as much as 2 miles per gallon! Using the tried and true "divide the miles by the amount of gallons" method, I usually get about 12.5 city and 16 to 17 hiway.

Especially with different injectors and DFI I'd throw those numbers out the window! I'm getting a calculated 11-12 mpg with my 408.

That's about what I get too! Usually 15 on the highway though.

Last time I calculated it on the old setup I was getting 17.5 on the highway, not bad for the power I was making.

I think the new setup will be lucky to break double digits LOL Most mods also tend to help with mileage, but there's definitely a point where it starts going the other way, and I think I'll be well past that point :jester:

Yeah,, I really don't take much stock in the computer... I just re-set it mainly for shitz & gigglez..
I was just kinda surprised since it's usually around 11 mpg with my mods.:jester:

I usually get about 300 miles before the light comes on at 1/8th of a tank. With half city/hiway I ended up at about 16.8 or so calculated. It said 17.2 or so on the overhead if I remember right. Been a while since I drove it....

When Im running only around town, Im usually getting 12-12.5 so even with all your mods you are doing good. On the highway it varies though. I get like 18 at 45-60 mph But 75 it drops to 15 and then just gets lower as I go faster.

You guys all suck lol! I'm getting 9...on a GOOD DAY! Think its time to change injectors and go DFI Thruster. Running premium gas and overhead reading 8.8 - 9.2 mostly is why it sits IN the garage.

i get around 10.8 miles to the gallon goin around the city. and about 200 hundred miles to a tank of gas, no lie. once its finished and tuned, i should get alot better, the stock head on these motors are wayyyyy to restrictive

overhead says avg 12.6, It normally divides out to 13. Most of my driving is city/highway and since I drive it :burnout: like it is stolen...oh well

Not sure where everybody gets their #s but i know of 4 different r/t ,s and all i see is 8-9 around town and 12 hwy if you don,t throttle them.. figured all mileage by hand divide=truth. not glamer figures. had a friend who had one claimed 17 hwy sold to another friend, he got 12 hwy. i,ve heard all the blue sky #,s but never saw it.. a dealer by me sold a 2000 r/t and there trying to get 15 hwy out of it and can,t .. thinking of putting a fuel inj. chev-vette in mine......

a friend of mine says thats what he averages on his over head but when we went to a street rod show we split the fuel cost and both ways figured out to be 12.1 all easy hwy no stops 70 mph. around town he gets 8-9. with the economy and fuel going up it really hurts..

Overhead, hahahahaha. It says I am getting over 20 mpg, not even close I am sure. I have not really put a whole tank of gas through it but I highly doubt that cause I would get like 400 miles or something crazy like that.

My average using the divide miles by gallons method brings me to 14.2-14.7 mpg. That's with a 5 day a week round trip of 48 miles per day, 4 of those miles are city driving to and from the freeway. I average 75-80 mph to and from work. My truck is all stock except for a K&N cold air setup.

I am getting between 14.5 and 15mpg. or about 220 miles on a tank

Anyhow, I get around 12.2 MPG city according to overhead and when I divide it out. I see approximately 16 MPG on the highway at 60-65 MPH.

I dont have an overhead computer, I always do the math on mine. I get anwhere from 9 to 11 around town, driving very hard. On the occasional freeway trip I've seen 15, with a/c on and cc set at 78. This was with the truck bone stock other than superchips and replacement K&N filter. Just did K&N cold air, 52mm TB, M1, and SCT yesterday, it will be interesting to see where my mileage goes. I have a lead foot, and live 2.1 miles from work, so my mileage will probably drop, but I'm so close to work that it doesnt matter much:drive:

Amen on that! I have a Honda Si (2008) that I drive when I'm worried about mileage. It runs 14.8 - bone stock in the quarter and gets 25+ when I drive the crap out of it and 32.2 on the hiway. Buuuut, it's not near as much fun as the R/T!

Best I ever noticed was when I drove from texas to nc. I needed to stop for gas at 380+ miles driving 65-70mph. It drops fast if I go 75. All in town, around 300 I think.
