With the 3/4" drop in the back it was basically level on level ground. Slightest incline uphill and the front was up. Took that weight off and now I want to lower 1/2". I just want to remove the springs once but keep good weight transfer to rear tires. To get a 1/2" lower front I remove 1/4 of a coil from coil springs, correct? Been a while since I rebuilt frontend and can't remember if I can remove compressed coil while leaving top balljoint connected. Raise brake and upper control arm and push down lower control arm as much as possible and it'll come out with the tool on the spring, right?

If your truck is high enough for the lower arm to swing straight down, you won't need a tool for the spring at all. Piece of cake.

i can't remember which ball joint i broke loose, but i do remember i never needed a spring compressor. the springs aren't compressed any with the wheels in the air.

I had thought they were, but I never did try to just jack up the lower ball joint to the spindle. Live and learn.:D That'll make it easier. Thanks all.

ive had springs out in 10 mins for each side, take the top BJ loose, hit the top of the spindle with a hammer "with a jack under it the entire time", undo the shock and slowly let the lower control arm down, pull the springs and its out
this was my 2nd time messin with springs

What did you do to remove 10lbs. from the front? lolHell, I doubt it was 10 lbs...we don't even have a bathroom scale to check. I took the outter bumper bracket and accompanying bolts and bumper "plates" (they are almost flat and give the bracket something to bolt to on the bumper). I also took the factory trans cooler, drilled out the rivets on the right side and cut off the strap right after(from left to right) the left side's rivets. After the cut I removed the top and bottom bolts on the left side holding those upper and lower straps. The only thing remaining is the left side's straps holding the cooler by the upper and lower rivets on the cooler. To make things neater I trimmed the tar paper (?) even with the aluminum of the rad. on the right side. It was installed from the factory a little crooked. That's all I removed. It must have been on the verge of "tipping" the other way like a scale, lol. Maybe that's why I can flat foot it out of the hole most times. Decent weight transfer.

No, that was originally GSM and then later on Todd at rtmods.com. And I think that was something like a 35 pound difference?

You can always install the plastic one piece bumpers and leave out the metal brace behind it. Alan did that swap.

The newer style one-piece bumpers have bigger heavier metal bumpers behind them.

Ok, now I'm confused. Stock for stock, is the newer style lighter? Can you remove the outter brackets for more weight reduction on the newer style bumper?
