yes I know "another fucking 4:56 thread?" Well I searched it ut to no avail so..Wanting to install 4:56's in my RT, and ws wodering if I should install posi or just get gears and a master install kit. This is not a track truck (yet) just going to be a street toy, so should I spend the coin for posi or just keep the factory LSD?

Wish i would have done it to mine when it was at the shop and all apart. Would have only been the price of unit. Now i'll have to pay part + labor when i go that route.

I broke the factory lsd so I put in an Auburn (the cheaper route). I did gears at the same time. If I was harder on the vehicle, I would have gone with a Truetrac or Locker.

Depending on how hard you drive, the stockers don't last that long.
I got about 38k out of the last one.

forget the factory unit and forget the auburn. I have an auburn now and it sucks. its always sucked since the day i got it and it was installed by a mechanic who does gears all the time.
either do the detroit locker for max traction or the detroit trutrac for more quiet operation. neither one will ever wear out. for our trucks, anything that doesnt say detroit on it is a waste of time and money.

i agree, my diff was taking a shit and i didnt even know it. i was just planning on swaping gears and when i opened the diff cover i had metal shaving everywhere. some clip from the diff broke off and got stuck in my bearing race and was eating its way threw the cap holding my diff in. it was all the way threw one side of the cap and halfway threw the bolt holding it. i needed a new housing $800 differential $500 and my yukon gears $400 it got expensive fast. so i would go with a detriot truetrac.

I roached my Auburn LSD in one season, now I have Detroit locker.
Go locker and be done with it....You said track truck, so there's really no choice.
