I am getting sick of the exhaust stink from my truck. The cam I have is the main culprit because the duration (236/240) which requires rich fueling for good idle characteristics. So I am thinking of going to a smaller camshaft and potentially running a race catylitic converter. The cam I am looking at would be 228/210 .577/.577 on a 114. Anyone have any thoughts?

If it is running really rich at idle wont it eventually kill the cats if you go that route?

Less duration, less overlap, less raw fuel dumped.

Apparently not the magnaflow race cat. I thought the same thing.

Yeah, that's exactly where I am going, but how much less will make a significant difference without sacrificing tons of power. I'd hate to have to experiment with this.

I'd think you'd have acceptable results with as little as 10* reduction in duration. But since you're boosted, you don't need much duration anyway. Somewhere in the 210*-220* would probably be a nice compromise and still make great power in your setup.

If you have side exhaust, you could switch to rear exhaust and not loose any power. :drive:
I've ran my "thunderbolt motorsports" spun billet cats pretty rich while roughing in the MS Tune and they are still in one piece and keeping my exhust from smelling.
