13.4 at 101.5mph.
about 50º at the track.
this was with the magnaflow x-pipe off of the truck since its getting coated with jet-hot ceramic. So basically 2 straight-pipes with no crossover whatsoever. Hoping once I get that x-pipe on there to pick up another 2-3 tenths. Not sure if thats optimistic or not but the truck does feel slower up top without it.

Something is missing on yours. Chris runs almost identical numbers there with his on a stock heads/cam setup. What are you running for stall and tires?

What kind of sixty's were you cutting. Oh and your not the only dissappointed one on here. I spent one year switching everything over from my 2000CC to my 99RC even added 900 rpm more stall and only gained 2/10's. I think some of these truckes are just freaks. I'm waiting to get back this year. I have added 1.7's to my 210 cam,new valve springs, B&G 408 flash,24lbs inj. and removed about 100 lbs more weight. Dissappointment here I come.

stock times vs. stock times my club cab on street tires was .4 faster than my reg cab was on slicks.

One more for what tires, stall and gears are you running, and what were your 60' times? I don't see an x-pipe picking up .2-.3 tho. But with your heads/cam setup your stall/gears might be off.

Yeah ditto..
I don't see a TQ converter, gears, or tires on the mods list.

i couldnt fit any more mods on my list. I currently use the hoosier QTP 28" by 11.5" dot slicks so no traction problem there. The stall i am using right now is about to be replaced for free because the lockup clutch doesnt work on it but its a 2600 aps stall. My rear wheel hp numbers are low too it pulls 280hp and 300 ft-lbs SAE or 300hp and 320 ft-lbs uncorrected on a dynojet. My 60ft times are in the 1.9 range. The truck weighs 3830 with me in it or about 3670 without me and 1/8 tank of gas. According to KRC this truck should have around 300-320hp with this cam. Also I have 4.56 gears. For reference, the truck ran a 13.7 at 98mph before the heads and cam. When I installed the heads I noticed a nice hp increase. The cam however didnt seem to do much besides sound. I had a very reputable guy install the cam too so Im sure he didnt make any mistakes there. Maybe the 210x is just a piece of crap because my stock cam was just about as powerful.

i was also thinking that maybe since the lockup clutch on my converter doesnt work, it could be hurting me on the top end. i hear that the lockup is actually good at the end of the quarter mile.

Yeh I would wait till you get the converter sorted and run it again before we go jumping ton conclusions that there is anything else wrong with your combo.

Yeah, wait for the good converter, and then see what it does. That could be the problem right there. If a good converter doesn't fix it, then we'll pick apart the rest of your setup :)

I thought you said the guy that installed your cam did not install it at the 106 CL or something like that. Maybe I have you mixed up with someone else.

ok cool i will keep you guys informed about how it does with the new converter. and yes that was me where my mechanic said he installed the cam at a 108º instead of a 106º. however i went back there again and he said when he installed it, the 108º was pretty close to being "straight up" and when I talked to Marty he said this would be fine and that 2 degrees wouldnt have much if any effect on hp numbers. so because of that i decided it wasnt worth it to get the cam re-degreed for little if no hp at all. but i guess after i get my trans upgrades and then the x-pipe on well see where i am.

hey everyone, just got my new transmission installed. its a full custom unit with 5 pinion planetaries 5 direct clutches kolene steels and all of the valvebody/piston/spring mods available from Wayne at APS. So far its awesome. Its nice to be back to an automatic valvebody; no more engine codes. It shifts very firm and quick and i got a racefighter 245mm billet 3000 stall with a heavy duty lockup clutch and some other goodies. The lockup makes it feel like i have 5 gears its awesome. I will keep you posted as the trans gets broken in in the next few weeks. One question, i know shift adjustments/firmness can be made with the TV cable but lets say I want my slow speed shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 and 3-4 and lockup to be set at certain speeds that I want..... is this possible by asking someone like tom fox to reprogram the PCM or is this only tv cable adjustments?

I think it's only TV adj. and very mute at that. I have found it hard to get the wot shifts were you want them and your low speed shifts were you want them too. Also don't forget your low speed shifts will seem off because you are not stock motor anymore IMO.
Siciliano15
03-29-2008, 01:25 PM
dam if thats true then that sucks. there has to be some sort of way to tell the pcm to make the trans shift at a certain rpm or speed during normal driving. right now it shifts 1-2 at around 15mph or 1900rpm and 2-3 at around 25mph or 2200rpm. For more of a performance feel id rather have it shift 1-2 and 2-3 at 2300-2400rpm like one would normally shift a manual trans.

push the gas a litte harder and it will shift higher. When i installed my built tranny i mainly focused on the wot shifts and thats how i adjusted the tv to where it shifted consistant everytime and didn't go bouncing of the rev limiter. When i had it too tight under normal driving it would shift at a higher rpm but at wot it wouldn't shift from 1-2 without banging the rev limiter.

Hmmm just goes to show you CC R/T's look better and are faster. :jester:
I honestly wonder if its weight transfer that maybe makes the CC hook faster than a RC? Dan

I think that case was more of an issue of the year difference. 99 didn't have all the BS the 03 does.

I see what your saying. I just thought at one time I heard that part throttle shifts could be changed by pcm programming. Maybe I will give Tom Fox a call and see if he has this capability.

hey everyone I ended up figuring out how to adjust part throttle shifts without changing full throttle shifts. Theres a small screw in the transmission that u can get to when u drop the pan and u adjust that and it adjusts the minimum TV pressure so it cant go below a certain amount and then u can set ur tv cable wherever u want to get it to shift under WOT. It could take a few tries to get it perfect but for me its pretty much perfect on the first try.
On another note..... I found out that my old trans and converter were not that great cause the new transmission and 3000 billet stall i got from Wayne at APS has really helped my dyno numbers.
With the old trans and converter it was 279hp and 299ft-lbs SAE
With the new trans and 3000 billet stall its 292hp and 321ft-lbs SAE
Weather conditions were almost identical and there were no other changes made. I still think I should be over 300 rear wheel with my mods but at least I am one step closer now. Does anyone know what else I can be missing to be over 300hp by looking at my list of mods?

Very good info!
Seems that the loss through the old drivetrain was greater with the old trans. Those are pretty good numbers.

thanks yea i was def losing a lotta power through the stock drivetrain. i wanna eventually do nitrous but not until i crack 300hp & 12.9 in the quarter mile N/A. Before the trans it was a 13.4 at 102mph.

I just can't figure out anything in your combo to improve. I'm afraid a bigger tb might hurt, so I wouldn't suggest that. Maybe bigger headers?

yea and the tune is pretty good too A/F around 12.5 most of the time. Bigger headers could prob help a little but i already have the mopars with 2.5" true duals and no cats so thats already a decent size exhaust system. Maybe if I ported the heads and intake manifold?

Just doing the heads would net you that number +. I was trying to think of a way to get you there without spending much money, but I think you're tapped. I know Terry Herrin is at 360rwhp with heads and cam, but I don't know if he has work done to the heads or not.

Those are some nice gains for a tranny swap. I wouldn't get hung up on the dyno #'s too much, take her back to the track and see how she runs.
