I hear that it is possible to remove the EVAP system, but what do I need to do so that I dont throw a CEL? I believe I have cali emissions. Is it still possible?

There is a resistor you put in the connector, but I can't for the life of me remember the size.

I've heard something about a resistor but everybody says it cant be done with cali emissions.

What year is your truck? It's easy enough to test. Go to radio shack and get a 100ohm 1/4W resistor and plug it in to the evap connector. If it works, you can remove the rest. If you get a CEL, then it's not gonna work for you. The newer trucks have leak detection pumps, etc that throws a code when you plug in the resistor. Watch the resistor and how you hold it in there. It gets hot.

Its a 2000 and im pretty sure it has the leak detection pump (black thing near the behind the battery). Ill give it a try.

I have a 02' with both the purge solenoid and the LDP, I put a 1/4watt 100 ohm resistor on the sensor plug, and in the works on what to do with the LDP plug. No engine codes...

I went through this with my truck....'00 Cali Emissions originally. It's true about popping the code for the Leak Detection Pump with the resistor, but it does it after ~400mi. on the clock....so it's not a MAJOR issue. I ended up switching to a Federal Emissions PCM and unplugging the LDP...then the resistor in the Purge Solenoid connector works great! I've still got everything, so one of these days I'd like to make a simulator box for the Cali Emissions and '01+ guys....but that's WAAAAAYYYY down on my list at the moment...LOL! One plus side to switching to the Federal Mopar PCM....truck feels stronger....heheh...

If you've done it within the last 400 miles (or have reset the PCM anytime before you hit a consecutive 400-430mi on the clock) then you won't have the LDP code....YET. You'll get it though, trust me.

My R/T used to have a Cali emissions PCM... until the SCT tuner overwrote it with a Federal program. =)

how did you manage that? who do I need to talk to, to get that done? when I bought mine I asked hemifever if there was a way to get rid of the evap and he said sct hadnt figured out a way yet.

I'm not sure it removed anything. I just know that my original PCM part number was a Cali PCM. He said that overwriting it with the federal program would be better in the long run. "If the Non Emission table set loads okay, you'll be better off in the grand scheme of things." Whatever that means. Maybe it's easier to tune, I dunno. All I know is it beat the pants off my B&G 408 flash.

Hemifever. I didn't ask for anything. That's just the way he flashes them apparently.

I thought the '01+ trucks all had the same flash...at least where the evap/emissions system was concerned....IIRC they all had the LDP integrated into the system starting in '01.

I have a 99 R/T. If I don't care at all about my CEL, is there any downside to removing the EVAP system? Do I even need to install this "resistor" that has been mentioned a few times or can I just unplug & remove everything?

99's can run the 100ohm resistor and get by with no lights.

was this on the 99 or the 02?

The 02. I run a resistor on the 99.

well I put a resistor in the purge selnoid and everything was fine they I pulled the plug for the LDP and a CEL poped up. Am im missing something here?

so is it just a pcm flash that you had done on yours or was it the sct? Do you have to buy the tuner and the 2 bar map thingy, im trying to figure all this out

The 02 has all of its emissions stuff. The 99 has the evap stuff pulled and a resistor in place of he solenoid.
