I had the rear end case in all replaced last rear Im pretty sure that the frame is not bent but having the frame shop check it out. Had the same problem with my '55 Plymouth after installing a 12 bolt Cutlass rear. Had a 4 wheel allignment done which fixed it.

The first thing I would check is the pin that locates the spring to the mounting pad. If that's broken, the rear end will move down the spring a little bit and cause the truck to "dog walk".

I went to go measure the distance from spring to backing plate and noticed that the u-bolts are leaning towards the passenger side which leads me to belive somethins broke

Sounds like spring pack pins. Not a big deal to fix except for taking out the spring packs. It's bit of work but it's not technically difficult. Are the spring packs sitting flat up against the spring perches? If not, it may be just a matter of loosening the U-bolts and re-aligning the pins to perches and tightening the u-bolts back down!
oh yeah.....Welcome to the site. In the short time I've been here the members have been a lot of help to me. Stick around a while :D
