I believe it's 2000, or 2001-up, when they changed from steel and plastic front bumpers, to just plain plastic backed with foam. I did that swap on my '98 to make it lighter.
That and pretty much any year R/T could be ordered "stripped". No power accessories, no a/c, etc.

2001 is when they changed to the 1 piece front bumper...... I don't know how much lighter it was than the 2 piece cause it had a steel reinforcing strip that I'm sure weighted a bit.
But unless there is a large difference in the weight of the interiors, all years should be pretty close to the same. It will depend more on what options it came with

That's right the bumper change was 2001. Another small weight change came in 2000 when they went from a solid front sway bar to a slightly larger dia. hollow tubular bar. Both were just small weight differences though.
Also in 2000 they had the heavy duty service package with bigger battery and added external tranny cooler. Both added weight back.
I think the lightest RC would be one without the HD package, no overhead computer, no electric options (windows, locks, mirrors, seat).

Yeah I forgot about A/C... That's about 30 or so lbs. with everything.
An aluminum driveshaft would save a few lbs.
You could ditch the front sway bar for drag racing and save 18-20 lbs.
Move the battery to the back... ( and on and on ):jester:
I took everything I could out of my interior... Pass. seat and everything in the back of the CC, including carpet. Saved about 135 lbs. Then added a 72 lb. rollbar:rolleyes:

I was just going to say that swapping to Eddy heads will shave about 58lbs off the front end. Have you had your truck on a scale yet?
Mine was 4160 with me in it last time I weighed, that was full street trim, with iron heads and the blower. So I'm really interested to see what it ends up weighing with the new setup. Blower/intercooler are gone, aluminum heads, but the R3 block is heavier than the stock block, but I think overall it'll still end up lighter. I'd like to see 4k in street trim with me in it. Then the Bogarts and front sway drop about 165lbs. :D
What seats are you putting in? I've thought about swapping seats, but I'll only do it if they're lighter. I'm not gonna give up my power windows and doors tho :)

The '98 bumper I had weighed a LOT compared to the 2001 plastic fascia that I slapped on there.

It was from a 2001 and yes, I had to get 2001 fog lights for it. I also bought the 2 end pieces that bolt to the front wheel tubs on either side, but I fabricated the rest. There were 2 "L" shaped brackets for either end and the one long piece across the front to hold the fascia up properly, all made of 1/4"x1" aluminum strap. It wasn't super easy, but it was worth it in weight savings for me.
