Is there anyone here that has seen, or know anyone, or has a Dakota, Dakota R/T that is setup for Drifting?? I allways thought these trucks would be pretty good at it. If so let me know, I'm kinda intrested for some ODD reason.. I dunno maybe cause I was doing a lil drifting around some corners tonight...lol

If you ask me, it's already setup for drifting. Just mash the gas and steer. lol.

there's a video of slowRT from D-D drifting at an autocross. I'm not sure where to find it but Sin City would know. It's some damn good driving too.

My car club should be attending an ameture drifting event this spring, I'll let you know how she does. But IMO I agree with a previous poster, with our killer torque, rwd, and poor weight bias, its just about perfect for drifting off the showroom floor.

i plan on drifting mine also

i have won the truck division of 2 armature drift events at rt.66 raceway. you need a suicide E-brake and a true locker. our suspension is not ideal but fine to beat other trucks. there was only like 7 trucks at the 3 events Ive done but most people suck and are learning at the events. most events don't allow trucks so ask before you go. i also pit crew for the falken/discount tire drift team when they come to Chicago so i know a thing or two about drifting. its my favorite motor sport. if only i could get a locker for the charger...

a pic in the pits next to the falken trailer with the falken girls. I'm in the back in the blue and the other 2 guys are my techs.

you can do it with that con fig, but i suggest a suicide e brake to pull in the middle of the truck. you can't always do power over drifts. especially with an automatic trans on long sweepers you need an e brake you can reach to get the rear end out. if you do small courses with no higher speed stuff you will be OK, but its still a tool you will want for drifting. also i think club cabs are a little better for control. the reg cabs have a short wheel base and get around on you quick if you don't pay attention.

drifting is a weird sport to me. In any other form of motor racing, you'd be fired for driving like a a-hole, for doing that stuff. I also don't understand the scoring. WTF !?!

armature comps are not tandem drifts so you don't have to worry about hitting anything but cones. i could care less if i win or not its fun to slide the truck around on some shit tires. my old boss from discount tire gives me used ws6 or camaro tires for free and i go burn em up. you get judged on 3 things.

-how sidways you get
-how fast you can do it at
-how little corrections you have to make. they hate seeing the front wheels turning back and forth, you gotta be smooth.

also hitting cones or spinning out is bad. and if they set up any walls i stay way the fuck away from them, which is bad for your score but i have visions of Eddie Griffin in my head and im not wreckin my shit.

It's definitely weird/interesting. I just want to try it as a neat way to send off these old falken rear tires.

hes right, slow running, our trucks will drift really easy. at hi speed without an ebrake, you'll just need no regard for safety, stomp on the brakes, shift weight forward and initiate, and hope you have enough torque to get the wheels spinning:woot:

Does it ask everyone to login again to view it? I'm already logged in, so that makes me suspicious.

I thought using the e-brake in drifting was WEAK?!

WickedQwikRT
03-06-2008, 09:40 PM
umm...yes and no....some of the lower power cars need it to initiate...and some need it for the more tight tactical sweeps and turns. ive seen in cam video of sam hubinette...not much ebrake.

then you go call most of the D1 professional drivers weak for using the ebrake a lot and see what they say. its great for correcting or getting the rear out at higher speeds.

sam dosen't use it alot because he has used high horsepower cars lately like the viper and the supercharged SRT charger. if you put him in a 350z or something i bet you he uses the ebrake more. tanner faust and chris forsberg use it alot. i dont think vaughn gitten jr. does.
