I have been trying to get this freaking shift arm off the tranny, so I can drill it, for about an hour now only to find out that the TV arm has to come off first!! :rtfm: (guess I should have read that far in the directions)

How does it come off?? I think there is a bolt on it, but I dont wanna turn it if I dont know what it is for.

Need this off so I can drill the arm and keep going on the install.

you talking about the shift arm or the tv cable connection?

the arm is a ball and socket connection, pops off with a screwdriver... the tv cable ... you have to loosen that bolt a little. it's more of a set screw against a flat on the shaft that goes into the trans... you don't need to turn it much, just enough to break contact & it'll slide up.

Once you get as far as Pete said, don't forget about the C clip on top of the Shifter arm. Its a PIA to get off and on, but that will hinder you pulling the shifter arm off after you get the tv cable bracket off.

Got it...thanks
After hitting it with a rested mind and your info....it came right off. I now have all the brackets modified and back on. Gotta run some errands before moving forward with the install

What c clip??

On my 2000 their is a c clip that goes onto the shaft above the shifter bracket. Its a f-ing pia to get on and off. Wonder if they did little changes to these transmissions over the years?

FWIW, I think you need a 7/16 socket to loosen the bolt that holds the TV arm onto the VB shaft.

Why do you have to modify that arm? Are you installing a shifter that requires it?
