I am currently in the market for a R/T. I found a 2000 regular cab with 45,000 miles for $6500 at a dealership near my house. The only bad thing is that it has a terrible flame paint job on the hood and behind all 4 wheel wells. Just curious if anyone has an idea of how much it would cost to repaint the exterior (driver/factory quality) excluding the inside of the bed and assuming no body work. Thanks.

That's a damn good price for the truck with that low of miles. What color is it now?
I would look at spending at least $1000, but I'm probably low.

You're right, that's hideous!
A full repaint is basically what you're looking at. Start checking around. It may sit on top of the original clear, and might possibly be able to be sanded down enough to where it could just need another shot of clear.

A quality paint job, will cost you about $2000-3500. I had my 92 Dakota painted over 9 years ago and it still looks amazing. Don't waste your time on a cheap paint job because in the end you'll wind up having to repaint it again.

Wow, what are some people thinking when they do stuff like that?
Anyway, that's a good price for a low mileage truck, but you could try to use the fact that you'll have to repaint the truck to try to talk them down a lil more, then put some money into a quality paint job and still come out ok. Good choice on a regular cab

Sometimes you can find people at body shops who do jobs on the side. When I was working in a Peterbilt body shop we had "four-wheelers" in there all the time during off hours. If you know anyone in that type of situation you could probably get it done really cheap and done well. Make sure it's painted in a booth if you go that route! The general idea is that you're not paying the overhead of the shop. Most importantly, don't get in a hurry, regardless of who does it. Hope that helps.

Holy!!yikes.
You may be able to VERY carefully sand and clear the offending areas.Factory paint is thin however so who knows.I'd give it a try, hell the worst thing that could happen is you'd have to prime the areas you sand until you could repaint them.

The Flairs will probably need to be Re-Finished, but it might be possible to lightly color sand the areas and remove the graphics.... if your Lucky
Otherwise you'll be looking at painting all 4 Flares and both sides of the Dakota to get that mess off it...
but for that Price, I'd be all over that deal in a Heart Beat!
