Hello all, If all goes well I'll be the prowd owner of a pretty clean 2000 R/T. Just wondering if there are any problematic areas that I need to look for. I've got the cashiers chenk in hand just have to get my happy ass taxied 4 hours to pick it up. I'll post picks later. Thanks
Jesse
It will look great parked next to our '06 Charger R/T!!!

check for oil leaks, tranny leaks and make sure it runs fine.
If it still has the stock intake manifold on, if you can, take off the air intake. Open the throttle body and look down inside with a flashlight. If you see excess oil pooling then its got a blown belly pan gasket. It can have a light film on it from the PCV but if there is a puddle of oil, then have the seller knock $500 off and get yourself and M1 intake manifold.
Also check to make sure the transmission shifts nicely and check it over as much as you can.

Thanks for the replies, It's at a dealership and they offer 3mo/3000 miles on there used cars so that should give me time to find anything. Is there a link that tells the differances between years? Just wondering.

no, but there's about 100 guys on here that could tell you! :jester:
from what i can recall, the 00 has a different fan shroud in the engine bay, as well as a couple of other things. the fan shroud is the only thing that i can think of right now. i had a 98 and i know there were a couple of differences.

What cab configuration and mileage?
Check the balljoints, and on a club cab, driveshaft vibration at higher speeds.

Regular Cab with just under 85,000. TTT out the door is $6662. They have like 25 pics on the web site and it looks very clean but I've yet to see it in person. I'll be there in a little while...Road Trip!!
What trannies do these things have? Can you buy a shift kit or does one need a programmer?

The 00 should have a 46re, and yes there is a shift kit made for it. It's made by Trans-Go. The programmers are ok, but what you really need is a Mopar Performance PCM. Replaces the factory computer, raises shift points, adjusts fuel/timing, removes speed limiter, increases rev limiter.
Get us some pics when you get it home!

They are all out of balance from the factory as far as I know.

Make sure the tranny shifts good. That is probably the biggest problem area on the Dakota's.

yeah check the tranny, my brother test drove a 2001 RC, and when we went up the road he kicked down on it and the truck would not shift out of 1st, u had to let off and mash it again then it would shift, IDK Y???

That was probably one of 2 things. Either the tb cable was messed with, or it had the valve body issue that alot of 01+ had.

Here she is in all her bone stock glory. Where do you guys shop for performance parts. The mopar website sucks.

I don't think it's necessarily that they're out of balance...I think the biggest factor is that they're longer than the recommended max length for a driveshaft. Plus, I think they're only balanced to 3k IIRC.

Jamie had his rebalanced, no more vibration.

Not saying that's not the issue with some, or that it's not a contributing factor...just that there's probably a few more factors involved than just it being unbalanced with some. Some guys have gotten rid of the vibe just by re-indexing the shaft, for example.

First I'd like to install headers and dual exhaust, most of the headers I've seen are 1 1/2 and I'd like 1 5/8 with 2 1/2 duals with an x pipe. Then a CIA and the ECU and tranny mods. Most will probably be a little while I'm putting a '84 camaro together right now. Most of my experience is with vintage chevrolets so I'm new to the fuel injected mopar scene.

Old thread but it looks like my 99 CC has the same vibration - this one above 70mph and just blew out my rear tranny seal.....wish I saw this post earlier so I would have known to balance the driveshaft... do dodge dealerships balance them at all?

Take it to a reputable driveline shop and have them race balance it.
Also check and replace the u-joints if necessary.

You'll likely be replacing the tranny tail shaft housing as well; usually by the time the seal goes, it's oblonged the housing....
Dealers will send them out; just find a driveshaft place on your own & save some money.
