rear end clunk

when i shake the truck side to side from the back i hear what sounds like the axles clunking like theres free play in it? is this normal?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "no". Can you jack up the rear end and feel any push/pull slack?

when i was at the dealer about this problem they said it was normal,so to verify this "story" so i went out to all the dakotas i could find at the dealer and shook the hell out of all of them and everyone of them did it, so im lost for words but it still doesnt tell me why its happening?... i will go out and lift the truck up to see if i can get the axles to move with no wieght on them:bs:

last time my truck made noises like this i broke a clutch disc in the rear,but i only make stock power so idk. but what else back there would make the clunk
