Anybody know of any type of "Drag Racers Against Street Racing" organaztion? There should be one started to help stop this insanity. After reading/watching that, I feel i need to take some type of action. I'm kinda at aloss for words to express it....
That is realllllly sick.
How in the hell does that happen? His lights where off and came up BEHIND the people? Wtf was this guy doing if he wasn't racing driving around on the grass for shits and giggels?
Did anyone watch the video of the scene? Bodies in white sheets everywhere.. its gross.
and it said that one of the people was a 61 year old man? With his wife and kid, they where out at 3am+ in the morning watching street races? Wtf?

Sickening...
It doesn't really matter how it happened, or whether the car that struck them was involved in the racing. As always, if "you" get involved in potentially fatal pass-times, even as a spectator, you may end up getting hurt or killed. Most of us have "been there" and can't really say much, other than it's a damn shame. Especially with so many bitchin tracks in the area. :(

yeah thats true we have all pretty much been at something like this like you stated....
I know here in phx yourclubs.net is promoting "don't street race and come the track" allthough the last event there wern't to many youngins there .. it was mainly older people . i think once they get things going it will help the young kids learn that they should keep the racing on the track

One article I read said the people were standing in the road watching the race, and the crown vic was just coming down the road (55mph road) and with the smoke from the burnouts the driver didn't see the people in the road.
Definitely a shame. :(

I really don't like how that's being presented as a "Street Racing Accident." The accident was that a guy plowed into a crowd of people who were standing in the road. It doesn't matter what they were doing in the road. THey could have all been staring up at the moon. But the press will go out of their way to make iit seem like someone died at the scene of a street race....
Well, they did die at the scene of a street race. You can't argue that. What I want to know is why the crown vic was driving around on that road without it's lights on??

The headline in my local paper read "8 Die In Maryland Drag Race."
Is that an accurate headline?

Nope, but that's the media for you.
It should say, "8 die while spectacting illegal street racing".
Or 8 die during illegal drag race. But the headline caught your attention and that's all they care about. The media could care less about the truth anymore. But if you read the article linked here and watched the videos it was clear that the illegal drag race itself wasn't the part that killed, but a stupid driver in a crown vic who didn't have his headlights on, and was probably speeding himself.

Yep dude was probably drinking, speeding, and being careless and kills 8 people. I am somewhat against street racing though. I mean who the hell wants to stand on the curb and watch a car fly by you blowing the tires off at 80mph a foot from you. I usually keep my racing on the track besides a litte streetlight grudge match which usually doesn't exceed more than 5 or so over the speed limit.

Only one witness, the woman Crystal Gaines whose father had been killed, said the car didn't have it's headlights on.
The police interviewed the driver and no charges are pending. So the driver was not drunk and probably had the headlights on. A truck also hit some of the spectators while trying to avoid the wrecked car and he also had no charges pending.
So I doubt both were drunk or were driving with their lights off.
WTF do people expect standing in the middle of the highway in the dark looking in the opposite direction of oncoming traffic?
I'd say something about cleaning the gene pool, but it would probably not be taken well.

I'm with you Nolan.
Whenever a tragedy like this happens, people always want to blame someone, to punish someone, but sometimes the people at fault are the ones who died.
Of course the guy driving the car is going to say he was doing everything legally. If a car is driving down the road with it's headlights on, I don't care what direction you are facing, you are going to either see the headlights, or see shadows or reflections off something to know it's coming. Not saying it's all his fault because the stupid spectators shouldn't have been standing in the road.

This story even made our Harrisburg Sunday's Paper. Sad but ya can't blame anything more than stupid people....
