Ok I figure I would get some smoke flowing out of the ears of you fellow gear heads. I am almost 95% sure I am going to make my truck a track only ride. With maybe a local in town car show cruise here and there. I am debating pulling my stocker with kevlar bands, 2800 stall msaine tc, transgo shift kit. I am debating on going the 3 speed route like Mr Adobe(beagle nut). Now how much does one believe you could gain? I know it is 70 or so lbs lighter than the stockers. I have been throwing the ideas around of a 904 built up, less weight than a 727 with a 3800 to 4000 stall TC. Manual valve body with shift light FTW. :rockwoot: Or shall I say this, dont kill me, a built up TH350 manual valve body, probably would be cheaper than anything mopar. I am just wondering what adaptors are needed for the TC. I know they make adaptor plates for the 360. Cause down the road my idea for the engine is a 390, callies crank, forged h beam rods, alittle lower compression, and ofcourse better flowing heads over the stockers I have. I will still run the Paxton Novi 2000 feeding air to it. I think that combo would be a nice fast rpm setup.. Ok enough of novel, speak you're ideas. Dan

I knocked 5 tenths off my 60 foot when I swapped form my MSaine 46RE with 2800 stall to a Cope Racing 727 with 4k stall, cut almost 1 second off my ET....Still rich on the big end, and I've been letting off the gas at right at the boards....The line is AFTER the boards, so I'm sure I do better now that I know that.

That makes me want it even more, got any pictures of you're setup? Dan

Sorry...Not one pic. What makes it pretty is how it works

It's CRT 727 with CSR tranny shield,
braided SS lines to a big ass cooler. I shift it with a Tubo Action Chetah shifter...When I want it to shift.

Thank you for the info, I am going to have my buddy build up one of my transmissions, probably the 904. Dan

Would a A-518 w/ manual valve body be worth my time/money? I'd like to keep OD.
727 w/ gear vendors would just kill all that weight savings.

A-518 will weigh more than a reg 727/904 setup. Though if you drive you're truck on the highway ect.. I don't see why it would be a bad setup. I believe the A-518's don't eat nearly as much power as the stockers in our truck. Plus on Moparts there are guys racing with A-518's as well. Dan

if your gonna do a TH350, then why not a TH400? both are great trannies. HeavyD runs a TH400 in his Durango. i'm running an A-518/46RH in mine. i don'y have a PCM anymore. so i would imagine you'd need a manual trans flash either way? i would realy ike to slap a manual VB in it.

TH350 is lighter than a 400... I know the part about flashing the pcm, which is no biggie. I run a TH400 behind a BB 472 in my old chevy truck, good transmissions. Just alittle more heafty in the weight department. I am pretty much hunting for a light combo, that will run circles around the stocker transmission. Dan

Dan,
If you are going to go strip only....go with 4.88's tall tires (31's) and a glide......:rockwoot:
I just thought I would throw that out there......lol

then the 904 or TH350 is the ticket. i've heard the 904 needs to be refreshed more often then a 727. like once a season.

Nah 4.56's are new, they are stayin in for awhile. A glide LOL, ya that would work to. :jester:

I was told we're too heavy for a glide...We need the low 1st gear to get off the line.

I spoke with my transmission guy, he said he is ready to build up my 904 when I am ready. I am going to go to a outfit like Cope racing, get their kits to build the transmissions. Than let my guy build it. Will be cheaper in the end. Dan

Agreed....
And John was the one that told me to stay with the 727 because of our weight.

Well what I find funny, is the 904's I have seen in heavy B body mopars. That make a good amount of power. So you still think even if I gut my truck out, it would still be to heafty? Dan

John Cope told to stick with the 727...

But I also told him I didn't want rebuild the thing every year.

So I figure so what if I'm leaving a couple tenths on the table, I'm doing this for fun.

What can these stock trannys hold powerwise?

I havent had any luck with stock tranny's. The 727 is all together a stronger tranny out of the box, its the "heavy duty" version of a 904.

I mean the stock 727, what can that hold powerwise without a serious rebuild?

I am going to venture to say 350 to 400 HP. Though depends on if you drive you're truck alot, if exhaust is loud, and rear gearing. Right now checked off I have loud exhaust, and 4.56 rear gears. Pretty much it will never go above 55 mph on the streets around here. Highway will never happen, and when it goes fast will be at the strip. The stock transmission in our trucks, is basically a 727. Till you get to the power robbing OD unit. Dan
