Truckin' Nationals, 4x4 nationals, and now know as "Tire Pros Monster Truck Nationals"

I've been to the past 3 events and each year there has been a good turn out, although the attendence gets less year by year.

Date is set, but there isn't too much info on event yet. Monster trucks, truck show, off road course, and DRAG RACING. Hopefully another Bikini Contest too

Just wanted to see who's planning on coming this year :woot:

Group Buy is NOW set. Pay steve for this great deal!

Bumpin this older thread... New info on the group rate available.

I got a call from Firebird Raceway today (did someone call/prod them?), looks like I'll be processing the group registration for this year's event after all. They have offered the same group rate as last year, which is a killer deal.

Details are available here:

If you have any questions, PM or e-mail me.

As long as I'm still living in AZ I'll be there as slow as ever. In fact, I should win for the slowest Dakota with mods.:jester:

My truck is pathetic.:laughat:

I'll probably be there once again, hopefully back in the truck this year.

I will most likely pass the torch on the group discount arrangement - I've been setting up the group rate since 2002, and the reps at Firebird just keep getting worse and worse. The guy who is there now is absolutely incapable of returning a phone call. It literally took 40 phone calls to get 2007's group rate done, the only time I ever got a call back was when I left a nastygram in the track manager's voice mail. I tried getting ahold of the guy again this year to try and arrange something for the DRTC Nats, but after 6 calls weren't returned I gave up.

Firebird continues to go to shit due to piss-poor management. I don't think I really want to suffer thru another Monster truck event out there again.
It's on an indian reservation and owned by an indian tribe. They are only really interested in their Casinos. They have a NHRA National Event there and they probably only do that for the numbers of people a National event brings to the Casinos. On a friday night TnT they have less and less employees to run the place and their equipment, lights and timeclock stuff is old and failing. They very seldom do any prep of the track. They only prep the track well for national events - because the NHRA brings their own equipment and people.

I'm still on the fence for this event. Now that they've pushed the date back later still - you can count on NOT having traction due to the 100° temps and 140°+ track temps.

Bah Humbug.:finger:

I still can't figure out what's the major malfunction over there. All the guy needs to do is acknowledge that he is still alive, and tell me what the price is going to cost for the group. That literally took over 40 phone calls last year. 9 out of 10 times I was forced to leave a message (didn't matter whether it was voice mail or the live receptionist, no callbacks), and the other 1 time he'd have no info and told me he'd have to call me back (which he wouldn't). IIRC we didn't get the green light for the group rate until 2 weeks before the event.

Every year I am doing all the legwork - I collect the names and information, I collect the money, and send everything to them in spreadsheet form with a single payment. It really doesn't get any easier than that.

I think my major problem with them is that I still remember when they opened that track 25 years ago. (That's where they had my Car Craft photo shoot for the Vega) I'm able to compare how it's been run in the past vs how it's run now. Granted it was never that great unless you're John Force, but it's been better than it is now.

I just went to the Firebird Raceway website and they're advertising the guy's job. He must have been every bit as bad as you remember him... maybe he's gone?

From the Firebird Site:
TICKETING SUPERVISOR
Positions require you to work early mornings to late evenings on event weekends, as well as working evenings 1-2 weeks prior to the event. Responsibilities include taking and processing ticket orders on Ticketforce. Event RV and Camp Firebird coordinator. Processing and bundling orders for mail out, selling several variations of tickets, handling cash, supervising event ticking staff, including parking attendants, ticket takers, and ushers. Answering general event questions, and dealing with the public on the phone as well as in person. Must be able to handle fast-paced environment, customer service and professionalism is a must.

No, the guy's still listed on the contacts page - Mike Kessler, Sales Account Manager.

He's a nice enough guy when I can actually get ahold of him on the phone, but that's 1 out of 10 or 20 phone calls, and he never calls back.

One of these days I'll make a meet.

Just bought a house in Maricopa (about 20 mins from Firebird) so I don't really have too many excuses to not go.
