View Full Version : Head gaskets?
TURBO TECHNOLOGY

Kinda ironic that of all users posting, I'd post such a question!
We've done a few R/T's with our turbo system on them and we can't seem to find a good head gasket. We've tried Cometic and those leaked on low boost and then we tried a Felpro 1008 and the customer blew those too (these didn't leak like the Cometic but blew out under 500 miles)
I've got another customer that is coming next week to do a supercharger (Procharger) and a set of heads. I need to figure out a fix here...
Cometic seems to think that you need to resurface the heads and the block but I dont think that is going to be feasible by my customer. :bs:

Its funny you bring up SCE. I was writting them an email and the second I sent it off, a co-worker walked in with Aaron's business card and told me this was the guy to talk too haha, go figure.
Felpro is supposed to make a good MLS headgasket for the Dodges as well. I'm trying to google up something now..

I used their felpro mls on my 408 and it didn't even hold a 100shot of juice then I read the package and it said not intended for racing use:jerkit:. I switched to head studs and felpro 1008's and so far so good. I would also recomend you stud the heads for that little bit of insurance.

On these motors the clamping force is just as important as the gasket type with the limited number of head bolts compared to other more modern performance platforms. So of course bolt stretch is unexceptable, definitely go with studs.

Your comment partially negated his gasket recommendation if hes not boosted yet, lol.
But I would still trust his advice.

is he anywhere near severn. I could have sworn I saw him driving by me about 3 times around 2 years ago. He would always give me a rev. Saw him once on 170 (telegraph rd) and a couple times on new cut and burns crossing

I thought I'd give you guys an update. These SCE gaskets are GREAT! We had no problems what soever with them. I would highly suggest running these if you have any issues with gaskets.
We help support the R/T so help support us... Contact me if you would like a price on these. They come in a set. I'll be any advertised price AND some.

Ive built a few turbo systems. On each one I took the advice of some circle track guys and used no gasket!
Yes, dont use a gasket, instead use copper RTV. Apply on the flange, let it set up until it wont stick to your finger, then install them and tighten down.

The only other suggestion I have is running the ARP head STUDS not the head bolts. Not even if the manufacture of the cylinder head says so. :finger:
