I landed on the Dakota R/T Delphi Forums in 2004 looking for nerf bars for my 2004 Dakota 4x4, I didn't even know a Dakota R/T existed.....Or where the drag strip even was. More on that later....
I loved the Gen III body style, absolutely the best looking truck ever made back then, and still is....But after reading that Delphi Forum I had to have one of these danged R/T things, so I snagged a 2001 RC off EBAY for 7400 bucks delivered to ABQ.
I was nervous as shit, but when it was dropped off I was a happy MOFO. It was perfect....Only 64K miles on it.
Having never worked on a V-8 in my life I dove face first into the mods...1.7 roller rockers, Sausage Cam, M1 2bbl intake, Mopar R/T heads, Spintech mids, Martin Saine 46RE, Fastman TB, B&G flash, 4.56 gears and an Auburn Diff...Oh hell yeah....
Fun little street tuck, except...I don't street race, so WTF?
Fast forward to 2007 or so..."Gee I Think I'll see what it can do in the 1/4 mile". Once I found the dragstrip I made a typicall NOOB pass and ran a high 15 second ET at some 95 mph. After that 1st pass...My life changed. Seriously.
The journey from runnning 15's to 11's all motor has been one year at a time, no need to document it here. But it wins races and awards at car shows...
This picture is from the original EBAY listing....It's caption should be, "Take me home, make me a Tin Can".
DONE.
