Well I bought a SCT tuner used from a guy that lives a little over an hour a way. He thought he unlocked it but when I got it, I could not get it to update the firmware because it said it was locked.
So he is sending me his PCM and I should have it in my hands today. I would have sent the SCT back and had him flash it but he took his electronics out to go carb'd.
Well his PCM is from a '99 with a 5.2 and my truck is an '03 R/T. Can I stick his PCM in my truck, flash it back to stock with the SCT?
Will it mess anything up? Or would I be safer to find someone with a '99 and use there truck to do the flashing?

Def not gonna work in yours. His tunes won't work on your truck either. Do you have the correct tunes for yours?

I know his PCM will not work in my truck. I was curious if I could use my truck to flash the 99 PCM back to stock. Then put my PCM back in and get a tune done for it.
I don't want to nor does the previous owner want to pay $150 to get the SCT unlocked if we don't have to.

Well, the '99 PCM is the one the SCT is locked to, so you're forced to either use that one (which you can't), or pay to unlock it. There's pretty much no choice.

It is locked to the '99 PCM. My truck is the '03. The SCT was not returned to stock so I have to find a way to return it to stock without paying.
Then I can use it on my truck according to SCT. I called them and they said that as long as it had not been used on more then five vehicles, then I should be able to use it.
I want to find a way to return the 99 PCM from the original owner back to stock with the SCT. Then use the SCT on my '03 truck.

That 5 vehicles thing doesn't make any sense. I wasn't aware that you could ever undo it yourself and then use it on another vehicle without sending it to them first.
If that IS possible, the '99 PCM will have to be in the truck it came out of and it will have to be powered up and operational. Then you could unload the SCT tune and put the factory tune back in it's place, but I wasn't aware that you could then go and tune another vehicle with it. I'm sure that's what they were trying to avoid in the first place, when they put the security dongle into it.

What if he put the PCM in another 99' vehicle and had a member help him unlock it so he can later hook the SCT to his truck? Or is the 99' PCM going to HAVE to stay with the original vehicle? If you can swap same year PCM's I don't see why that wouldn't work?

This is for the handheld and not the PRP package. The PRP package is not transferable but the handhelds are allowed to be up to 5 times (According to SCT). As long as it is returned to stock before the next vehicle can use it.

That's what I was hoping to do. The SCT is locked by the VIN number as far as I can tell. I am trying to get a hold of them via chat now.
Is the VIN stored in the PCM or is read from somewhere else?

Good point! I suppose that's possible, since I know you can swap like PCM's among like vehicles. I have 2 different MP PCM's and one isn't vin'd to my truck. It works fine.

I see. It has their canned flashes in it?
Anyway, good luck!!

I figured out how to update the handheld to the latest version. I scrolled through the information and it said that the aftermarket changes left are zero.
So I would have to send it back to SCT anyways. I may try to get a refund instead or work out something with the original owner.

Well I was able to use Red Rocket aka SRYOFCR aka 99_RED_RT truck to unlock the SCT back to stock. The PCM was from a '99 5.2 and I was able to use a '99 RT to unlock it. This should make SCT's price go from $150 to $65.
Also, Chrysler's handhelds only get 3 unlocks. The first unlock is used on the first truck/PCM the handheld is used on. Then you can only use it on 2 others trucks/PCM's before it has to be sent back.
