I'll try this again...2015 Winter Mods

Re-doing my exhaust from end of the headers back, going with merge collectors and short (Loud) mufflers, it's track only and it would be nice hear the thing when staged next to a 572 ci open header big block that's banging off a brake at 5000 rpm.

Cut 1/2 coil off my trick springs, it's still sits too tall in the front, and try to figure out how to block off the lower grill to keep the front end down at speed, it looks like a gasser going down the track now..

Motor is out for a converter swap, my current 9" 4000 ptc for a 8" 4500 Ultimate Converter. DONE

Going to sell the viper fan, so I'll be grabbing a lighter 16" fan for the R/T. DONE

I might put the MSD crank trigger on or sell it.

Putting in a manual steering rack DONE so I'll move the alternator over to passenger side. Might shop for a smaller lighter alternator but the stock one will work.

I'd like to add a few bars so I have a 10 point, we shall see. Bars Ordered

And a little trim here and there...DONE

I never ran the Aerochambers, but they might have worked better than the straight through mufflers I am using.

Two answer everyone's exhaust questions, open mufflers add to the collector length, a generic PIPE MAX program spit this info out.

-- Total Exhaust System Tuned Lengths (Primary ends to Tail Pipe end) --

Best HP/TQ Tuned Collector Lengths= 16.2 , 32.3 , 64.6 , 129.2 inches long

Worst HP/TQ Loss Collector Lengths= 24.2 , 48.5 , 96.9 , 193

My current exhaust is 49.5". Will a shorter length work better with Merge collectors? I'll find out in March

New exhaust is 32" - total weight 14.1 lbs.

Weight savings 31 lbs. I'll see how it works in the PAH dept.

Won't need em if the exhaust is bolted to the truck with a hanger, and I'll have tabs weld on the collectors so I can bolt them onto the headers, Tech looked on my old set up, saw the exhaust was bolted on...Good to go.

I have seen where people have taken power racks and modify them to be manual for drag racing. Save some $$ and some fabrication.

It wouldn't help with the oil pan clearance you are looking to gain though.

What I saw didn't loop the hose, it involved removing the valves from the power assist side, plugging fluid ports , and some kind of minor modification to a divider within the rack, etc.

It is something I came across late one night while looking for something else, I am sure I bookmarked it, now to find it in the 1000's of bookmarks on my PC. A late night project this weekend.

Found this...LS1 forum

The rack is disassembled and the pistons are machined down to eliminate the any internal resistance they would cause.

The spool section has parts removed and modified with welds to strenghten areas were the parts were removed from.
Hydraulic fitting bores are welded up and ground.

Unit is packed with grease, new seals and boots.

The ratio remains stock.

What they are doing is pulling the rack apart, removing the piston, plugging fluid ports, greasing it and putting it back in, I'll bet it's no diff than a power unit with the hose looped, one guy said it's a bitch to turn in the pits.

IMO the stock braces are overkill because truck, but they are there for a reason...I don't think an add on tube would do much other than provide false security, I know my frame has been made weaker in the event of a front end hit, hence I would not do it on truck driven on the street, no reason to.

Sorry, I need a new steering column flange that I can have welded onto the 3/4" DD shaft, I have a 3/4" DD shaft.

Or, I could cut 2" off the column that would allow 2" more shaft to stick out beyond the firewall, but move the steering wheel 2" further away from me...

Since my cab is still one the stock rubber mounts, I like knowing my steering shaft isn't going to be stressed out every time I launch/brake, hence liking the stock slip joint. Or am I just being anal?

And when I say the install went smooth as silk....I have countless hours researching it on the web, once I did it, no problem, and you have proved a lot of input. I can save a people a shit load of time if they want to do this.

Just a safety FYI, in case you didn't know. The shaft is made to collapse in case of a accident. When the front end crumples and the rack gets shoved up or in the shaft collapse instead of shoving steering column parts into the passenger area. Like I say just a FYI in case you didn't think of it. Like the ingenuity in these types of builds. :hail:

You are bolting it to the head? Or just as it sits? I was thinking of using the LA engine mount to mount on side and the frame to mount the other. Does your block have that mount? Where the ground is mounted on the right.

Track plays by the rules, when I made my first 11.39 pass I had to go to tech, they wanted to see a roll bar. Guys have been banned permanently for REALLY violating the rules.

The guys who died were faster than 11's, one guy was burned and died 2 weeks later, another probably died instantly.

When bracket racing I line up against 9 second cars all the time and I've a couple take out the timing cones in front of me as they cross the center...So it's not all about what ET you're running, there's a guy in the other lane too.

Just noticed, new best 60' 1.55, was 1.56.

Little bitch is gonna be a runner, hope it's still consistent.

Hooked up a Moroso Trans brake button so I can launch off my 2 step...I need some consistency with my launch RPMs.

I'm sorta in the bracket racing mode, I've dialed my shift points back to 6600, timing is at 31*...Still ran a 11.32 with it, but from now until November it's all about consistency and points...:rockwoot:

It's gotta help, sometimes I line up against a 572 ci big block bouncing of the rev limiter at 5000 rpm...I can't even feel my truck running.
