So, I took my R/T to the track last night, and did 3 passes. This was my first time on a race track.

October 1st - Milan Dragway.

Mods - in signature
Stock TB
Stock airbox with K&N filter
Stock kegger with leaking plenum
Stock tune
! Spare
! Rear bumper

First pass - 15.36 @ 89.75 60ft was 2.2228
Second pass - 15.14 @ 91.18 60ft was 2.2102
Third and final pass - 15.06 @ 91.20 60ft was 2.1855

I expected a hair under 15.0, but I'm not disappointed. I have an M1 2bbl ready to install and I'll be picking up a HiPotek 52mm tb soon. I'll make a few more passes before I put it away in November.

Nice Job improving each pass
Not bad for a first time out in a stock truck, you get some sticky tires and your 14s :r/t smile:

Okay, so I can get some Hoosier drag radials for $215/ea shipped through my work in a 275/40/17 which is 26" tall. Before I decide to pull the trigger, what do I have to worry about breaking? I was looking at the Mickey Thompson ET street radials but they are on back order.

Save your money on those and get your parts installed - Also a tuner will get you leaps and bounds above where you are now. Dont have to worry about breaking anything.

If you are handy I have a nice big K&N filter you could fab a cold air setup with a 45 bend from mandrelbends.com and couple silicon couplers (under 100 bux and look nice). You can have the filter cheap - it will help you leaps and bounds above the stock air box. The K&N filter is part number e-1796 and brand new in box.

So in recap I would do the following before DRs:
1.) M1
2.) TB
3.) Cold Air
4.) SCT tuner!!!! A MUST you will shit your pants at the gain (I have an X3 bnib also lol).

I am done pimpin parts.

Very nice improvements with each pass! First time at the track is always tough! Listen to these guys...they know their $hit! I'm hoping to get my truck all worked out and get at least one pass before the end of the season! :drive:

Thanks guys. I wanted to make some more passes, but it was taking forever between passes and it was getting late. I should have my M1 and 52mm tb installed this week, and if it's done before Wednesday, I'll go again Wednesday, if not, I'll have to wait until the following week. Hopefully I'll get the mid 14s I wanted to see.

You know how I know I'm hooked? I started shopping for drag radials the very next day at work. I'm screwed :jester: :drive:

JMO!!

I would keep the kegger. But since it's leaking you might as well go with the M1.(you will loose some off the line with the M1) Get a tune and stop there. Work on getting what power you do have to the ground. Until you get it to stick what's the point of more power and no traction?

After you get it to stick, work on free/cheap mods. Short belt, fan delete, spring clamp relocation, 26" DRs or slicks on Dak sport wheels, Poor mans skinnies (not really free or cheap. I went slicks and skinnies because of a great deal), front sway delete, pull the spare, pull the tail gate.. etc. etc.

FWIW I did all the above, with the exception of the M1. My best time was 14.0 with a Hemifever 93 tune, kegger, JBA shorties, cats, BBk 52mm tb, 1.7 rockers, 26" slicks, skinnies and caltracs. Then wasted my trans. I never got to the 13.99 I was looking for.

Down side disclaimer! I smoked the R/Tcrack! After I wasted the trans I built a motor and trans skipped the 13s and went to 12.5. Now I want 11s!! :jester: :fml:

Well, I already have the M1, and I've read that a good SCT tune can bring back the low end I will initially lose. Should I install the M1 or not?

I have a 2bl m1 sitting on a shelf with a 2800stall converter:jester:

Up to you :idunno:

I plan on waiting to do a cam and converter someday as I have yet to run it in its current configuration with my Custom PIE tune .

You will lose low end so don't be upset when it is lazy out of the hole without a converter or power added. Maybe a gear swap or smaller tire will help for the lost low end the previous owner of my DA truck removed the M1 after it killed his 1/8 times at the track

I do plan on adding a 2800 stall next year, and the tires I have now are like 27", although I would end up throwing on 26" slicks or drag radials for hitting the strip.

Way back when I put an M1 on my 99, the low end loss wasn't even noticeable. It had no problem boiling the tires.
