is there anyway to run a short belt on the motor with the a/c compressor and p/s pump still on the motor and having two belts you can switch back and forth for street and track. i'm looking to run the water pump, and alt

Before Shortbelt and slicks
9.17@77.81mph 1/8th mile of course
2.15 60' on Nittos
With slicks and shortbelt
8.93@79.50mph
1.98 60' on M&H's (Torque Management kills my 60's with the slicks)
DA was about the same for both runs
My mods:
GSM Headers and 2.5 true duals with cats
M1
Hand ported stock TB
No AC
Viper Fan
M&H 325's
and the short belt

Don't overlook the fact that the runs were slicks vs street tires. That short belt only accounted for a small % of that.

i figure if i can break into the 13's with some minor tweaks i will be happy. I still have to get a baseline for all the work I did over the winter.

I use a 53" Dayco #5060530 Ive had it 5yrs over 80 passes and no problems I find I pick up 1-2 tenths with it.

The slicks were probably the primary contributor but the belt does make a small difference. Not to mention its makes it a PITA turning around at the top end haha

its okay at the track, but you better eat your wheaties when you need to turn the truck at low speed. Swap it in the staging lane, and put the other one back on at the big end of the track if you have enough light.

well i won't have to worry about muscling the steering wheel around b/c i do it all day. The delivery truck i drive at ups has no power steering.

Hell, throw it on before you leave the parking lot. The track I was using made you do a complete u turn at the topend of the track. As soon as I get enough power goin back to the whels the belts goin back on. lol

the track i race on is large it holds the nhra event every year but they are pretty strict on their rules. The turn off is large and sweeping so no problem there.

I have ran one on my truck a few times. No track times. But it feels like it pulls alot harder. Get a electric fan to.

well i put the belt on today it ended up being a 51in 6rib belt I tried a 49in and had no luck there but a 51in seemed to fit the bill. Seemed like it pulled a little harder but i couldn't really tell b/c of the tire spin. I will post up some numbers on just the shortbelt next weekend when i go to the track.

to run the short belt can you just buy a belt for a dakota with out a/c, or is something else needed?

the bracketry is slightly different. so the belt length won't be quite right. and most do this to bypass A/C & PS. best bet would be to measure for what YOU want to do.

Are the gains worth the hassel?

the hassle? it takes more time to pop the hood and get out of and back in the truck than it does to swap belts.

i skipped the ps and a/c on mine. i figure if i gain a tenth and 5min of my time to change them out its worth it. Plus i don't really like to wind up my accesories up to 5400rpm either.
