Got back Sunday night from the Motorsport Nationals down at the Georgia International Convention Center. For a show that was thrown together last minute after the NOPI Nationals cancellation, they pulled it off well overall. While it was lacking in the vendors and sheer number of vehicles, it made up for it being indoors (and outdoors) with some really nice vehicles. It was also my first foray into Sound Quality competition on a large scale.

On Saturday I competed in the MECA (Mobile Electronics Competition Association) SQ competition and walked away with a 2nd Place in my class MODEX. I also took home the "Phat Truck" award from MECA as well.... that one just makes me laugh.:jester:

On Sunday I competed in IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association) SQ competition. I was involved in three different formats, two of which I was in the Rookie Class. IQC (Installation Quality Challenge) which is pretty self explanatory. SQ (Sound Quality) which focuses on Sound AND Installation quality. And SQC (Sound Quality Challenge) which is judged on Sound Quality only and is NOT divided into classes so you're competing against all SQ competitors from Rookie, Amateur and Pro Classes.

The results from Sunday were as follows....

1st Place IQC Rookie Class
1st Place SQ Rookie Class
1st Place SQC 1 seat All Classes

Here are some other SQ rides, and others are just some wacked out rides that caught my attention.....

Congrads on the wins. As for the other rides that aren't my style, there doesn't look to be a dog in the bunch fabrication wise. Dan

Congrats Darren! You definitely have one of the sweetest R/T's I've ever seen. and WOW on all those other "cars". not sure if some of them are still even drivable by the looks of things. Wish I had that kind of money!

No clue, it's built for (SQ) Sound Quality competition, not (SPL) Sound Pressure Level competition.

Gotcha. So how do they measure Sound Quality?

Gotcha. So how do they measure Sound Quality?

SQ competition is judged via certified judges that listen to the same reference material at the same volume level per vehicle.

They listen for tonal accuracy, sound stage, imaging, linearity, absence of noise, ergonomics.

It's obviously a lot more subjective judging than SPL which measures the low frequencies and generates a db number. As a lot of tuning and tweaking goes in to SQ competition.

Congrats Darren!!! A well deserved trophy collection if you ask me. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of this throughout the remainder of the fall and through next year as well?

Cool, I was wondering if it was someone listening, or if they had equipment to measure sound quality. Congrats again on your wins, love your setup!

Way to go, Darren. Quality over noise / thump!

Looking at the workmanship alone, on your R/T, would make judging you a winner a no-brainer!

Yeah I hope so. I'm actually scrambling to make a few more shows before November so I can get enough points to make MECA finals in November.:woot:

Yeah, I did the SPL stuff 20 years ago and got out of the season a few years later. Now that I got the truck to a certain point, it was time for a system and I thought I'd opt for SQ this time around, and I'm shocked at how well a Dakota's cab allows this to work. We do benefit from very thick metal on our door skins which helps with my mid bass drivers. The midrange speakers in the kick panels have very good pathlength distances for such an offset seating position. And moving the tweets up to the a-pillars has raised my soundstage tremendously.
