So, what's the plan? N/A , fastest supercharged , show queen?

Give us a run down of your build.

I really like the valve covers too! That's what sold me on the engine! LOL :bling:

My plans are really just a stout RT. Going to be a weekend cruiser with an occasional trip to Englishtown Raceway Park or ATCO. Would love to be in the low 14's to high 13's. Who knows, I've never had a vehicle with N20...

I also manage a transmission shop...so, my builder is going to build me a nice, tight unit...with all the upgrades...and I'll probably go with a 2800-3200 stall converter.

This is what the motor has....53mm Fastman TB, 4 barrel M1 intake with a 2 barrel adaptor, FMC 24# injectors, big ported factory heads with hardened exhaust seats and new valve job, .544/.544 110 LSA Hughes cam, MP 1.6 roller valve train with MP .600 springs, Keith Black pistons .020, new bearings, ground & polished crank, resized factory rods with ARP hardware, honed block, surfaced block & heads. Also came with a SCT tuner and a LM2 Data logger with wide band o2 sensor. I think that was everything! LOL

Nice set up Mike.

I would guess with a Nice trans and SCT magic you'll hit 13.5 if it hooks up.

May 24th we are going racing in D1 you should mark your calander and put the whip to your trans builder:jester::biggthumpup:

I'm trying to see what I can get done...Lost a LOT of time...and my friend needs his driveway back, so I don't know what I can get done with that before it goes back in! I may have to live with it for now! :idunno:

Got the alternator and bracket situation resolved! Still have to trim a tiny bit more off the bolt on the back of the alternator, but everything seems to be coming together now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fired up by the end of the weekend!

This after some modifications and trimming...still need a little bit more! A little too close for comfort!

Mike, get an alternator lug from a crown vic alternator. it will bolt on and face that lug straight up, so that it doesn't come close to the VC anymore.

MikeTR

Any idea on a year? Do I have to get a whole alternator and take that out? Or is it like in the HELP stuff at Pep Boys? LOL

Hugh Jassole
05-22-2014, 04:43 PM
you might be able to find that in the help section, doubt it though. Say middle of th elast decade for the crown vic. I believe they used the same alternator for like 10 years. Should be able to find one out in Englishtown at one of the junk yards.

Thanks everyone! It's all ready to go, but it won't run right with the stock tune...and the programmer I got with the engine is VIN locked to another vehicle! So, I have to either buy a new one or send this one off to be unlocked for $150...:fml:

Congrats on the build so far! Had same issue with the valve covers. When they we're new the directions said to do the same thing you did which you figured out. The valve covers were made by GSM motorsports from along time ago, a nice piece to have and a rare one to!

I like the way they look for sure...I worry a little about leaks because there's half the bolts holding them down! :idunno: Is there any wire looms that go with these things?

No leaks from mine they work great. No wire looms for them :-( I just ran wires you cut to length Taylor brand, with the wire loom clamps to hold the wires together.

Put the air cleaner on and a few other things to do a little longer test run (no driving yet)...I'm going to clean up all the little odds and ends and make it look prettier....But not like a lot of guys on here! I don't have the time or energy to keep up on my engine compartment like that! I wish I did...but I don't! LOL
So, here's a few pics (taken at night) and another exhaust clip after the install of the tune by HEMIFEVER...It runs a 1,000 times better with the tune!!! The idle is steady, no smell of unburnt gas pouring out of it anymore and no Check Engine Lights! I just need to get a small hole in my header welded on Wednesday...and I should be driving it this weekend! :drive:

Took her out for the Maiden Voyage! Put about 25 miles on her. :drive:
There's definitely an issue with the idle. I'm 85% sure it's sensor related. Maybe the Throttle Position or a temperature sensor. The idle is high when you start it...and takes about 5 minutes of 2500rpm warmup! Then it will kick down to 800ish. You can not "kick it" down by whacking the throttle. Then it will jump up again after after a few minutes idling at 800. Even when driving, the rpm's will stay high at times...and then it will almost stall when coming to a stop...unless I tap the gas right before coming to a complete stop...:fml:
When I get to work tomorrow, I'll get one of my guys to hook the scanner up to it and see what kind of readings it's getting. Any ideas on what to look at/for? :idunno:
Thanks!

Looks and sounds Good!

Like Don said drive it and it may settle in with the whole idle relearn. my 2000 and the BLK CC I have were the same way. it needed to log miles before it stopped loopy idle and stall issues .

MikeTR
06-23-2014, 12:45 PM
OK, I have put about 40 miles on it, with no changes. I have it at my shop today, so I'm going to have them scan it. Do a cylinder contribution test, check the temps that the computer is saying it's reading, etc.
There was a LOT of smoke coming from underneath the truck whenever I stopped for a light. Smelled like burning oil...I pulled over and checked it...seemed like a valve cover leaking onto the headers.
Overall, everything seems good...It definitely has some get up and go! LOL

MikeTR
06-24-2014, 03:55 PM
Found the issue with the idle! My friend that did the install had the fuel return line going to a vacuum port on the intake! It was sucking gas back into the intake! Right now I just have it blocked off...and it's running MUCH better with no Check Engine Light on! Just not sure if it's cool to leave it blocked off!
Also, had MASSIVE oil leaks from the valve covers! Found that 2 of the bolt holes were stripped and the bolts were just spinning in there. Got them tapped out and new bolts in there...All good! Going for another road test soon!

Update...90% of the oil leaks are fixed...new Nitto NT555 tires, alignment, Plasti Dipped rims, working on the exhaust leak and transmission rebuild next!
I already have a 2800 stall, buying all the clutches, bands, solenoids, shift kit, etc next week. Then it's off to Englishtown to see what we got going on!

I guess I need to look up what qualifies as Heavy Mod N/A! I get the N/A part...but I don't know if mine is Heavy Mod! I guess it might be? :idunno:
I guessing it's going to run a mid 13 when I get the trans and a proper tune on it. That's what the seat of my pants timer tells me! That's kinda slow for a Heavy Mod...IMHO! LOL

I guess I have to update my sig with all the mods...

Transmission is out and torn apart...I started a thread in the DRIVETRAIN section about it...(http://www.dakotart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32175)
The good news is, the rear main seal is NOT leaking like I thought it was! WooHoo!
Odd thing is, I have 3 cats on my truck. The two mini ones on the y-pipe coming off the headers were added in. I think the are hi flow cats. Both of those cats have O2 sensors attached to them. The 3rd cat is down stream from them, but there are NO O2 sensors with that one!?! Do I need it? It looks like the metal shield around it has purpled from heat. I think I'm just going to remove it and put a straight pipe in it's place. I wouldn't think that removing it would throw a code since there's no O2's up or downstream from it. Any thoughts?
